Story
A lone narrator meets a railway worker who is confined to a cold, gloomy station in a deep cutting near a tunnel entrance. This worker is a signalman, and it is his responsibility to give the green light for trains to pass through the area. These are slow, monotonous days. The signalman’s life is not marked by much, until the nightmares begin. Three times in a row, a ghost mysteriously appears before the signalman – and with each apparition, a tragic accident unfolds on the rail tracks. Although our narrator doubts the man at first, events soon make him a believer too.

I kept looking over my shoulder for the train
Reviewed: 30-01-23
The atmosphere in the story is pitched perfectly. It builds up the tension and works well with the story.
The 3D audio is a great choice, as it immerses you even more into the story. It's amazing how it kept tricking me into looking over my shoulder for the train or footsteps. Probably not one I should have listened to while out walking to work.

An adaptation that keeps the power and originality of the stories alive. The quality of the performances added to what was already a favourite series for me.

Story
Miranda’s back, but she’s not sticking around for long. In an attempt to regain her mojo, she’s packing up her whips, chains and thigh-high boots to leave London, and set out on a road trip unlike any other. With her best frenemy, and fellow dominatrix, Mistress Laveen in tow, she heads out to see what delights – and displeasures – they can dish out from the “comfort” of budget hotel rooms across the UK.

So moreish that I listened to both series in a couple of days.
I loved the great sense of humour and the fact that the actors obviously had fun with it. It felt relaxed and unforced, which made it more enjoyable.
I like that the series covers the subject of sex work without judgement, but also without glamourising it. It is just a job, with some interesting quirks.

A very varied story
Reviewed: 28-12-17
The many varied aspects of this story make it difficult to pin down what the book is about. However, despite this, I seem to have loved every minute of listening to it.
The characters feel like very unique and distinct people. Which kept me completely engaged in the story.

Story
An unabridged reading of Philip Pullman's nerve-shattering thriller, set in the murky streets and opium dens of Old London. When 16-year old Sally's father drowns in suspicious circumstances, she is left to fend for herself in Victorian London. Although she doesn't know it, she is already in terrible danger.

Story
In the half a square mile of decay and demolition that was England's Saxon capital, eternity is loitering between the firetrap tower blocks. Embedded in the grubby amber of the district's narrative, among its saints, kings, prostitutes and derelicts, a different kind of human time is happening. Through the labyrinthine streets and minutes of Jerusalem tread ghosts that sing of wealth and poverty, of Africa, hymns and our threadbare millennium.

I was impressed by the sheer length of this story, at 60 hours of listening time. However, every moment of it was intriguing and engaging. It kept me listening through every part of it's many storylines, each as fascinating as the last.
My family come from Northampton, but I grew up elsewhere, so this was an interesting look at an area that I had little personal knowledge of. It builds up a picture of both the history of Northampton and the individual people who have populated it.
Now I have finished, I'm tempted to start again.
