Story
We all know that the future is inherently unknowable, and yet we behave and plan as though it is. Once we truly understand the nature of uncertainty, though, we can take practical steps to make the most of the opportunities that come our way. In Mastering Uncertainty, award-winning author Matt Watkinson and investor and entrepreneur Csaba Konkoly offer a masterclass on the workings of luck and probability. They show how to calculate when to make big bets and when to pull back.

Really enjoyed this am on my 2nd time through as there are so many nuggets it's hard to catch them all on first listen without extensive note taking (although the structure helps as the main points are given as a brief synopsis at the end of each chapter).
I found it reminded me of a few things, confirmed my thinking on some others and taught me a lot of new stuff too.
Well worth a listen (this was actually my first nonfiction audible, so I ended up getting a paper copy too to markup for my own reference)

Story
When Mahony returns to Mulderrig, a speck of a place on Ireland's west coast, he brings only his handsome face, a photograph of his long-lost mother and a determination to do battle with the village's lies. Mahony also somehow wakes the dead from their graves, with their foggy memories and hidden stories floating greyly amongst the unseeing living. No one, though - living or dead - will be able to guess what happened to the teenage mother who abandoned him as a baby.

This book was hard hitting but loved every minute of it, the story was really well described and helped me to get a real sense of what it was like for the main character.
I wish there were more books out there letting the work know that having a baby isn't all a bed of roses and that we shouldn't be judged for talking about it otherwise.

Most people are going to read books in order and therefore there is no need to repeat information

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

I love this story but it was hard going at times due to the narrator trying and failing to do German and English accents.
I'd rather it just be read without the accents to be honest

I loved it and think Im going to find it hard to find another book this good this year to top it, will definitely read this again and would recommend this book to anyone

Story
Two years after my mother died, my father fell in love with a glamorous blonde Ukrainian divorcee. He was 84 and she was 36. She exploded into our lives like a fluffy pink grenade, churning up the murky water, bringing to the surface sludge of sloughed-off memories, giving the family ghosts a kick up the backside. Sisters Vera and Nadezhda must put aside a lifetime of feuding to save their émigré engineer father from voluptuous gold-digger Valentina.
