Beautiful narration of a good plot
Reviewed: 20-07-24
The plot of this book is probably the best so far in the series. There are many parallel threads to take Ramotswe's attention, as well as from her husband. The plot ties neatly and it was very relaxing and pleasing to listen, great narration.

I enjoyed the introduction of new characters to the world of Mercy, and Anna is a good strong female one. I am not as sure about Charles, but the villain stole the show. A good powerful villain that puts up a real fight against werewolves.

This last book is exactly what I was hoping for. A lot of crazy, several different paths showing how things could go wrong, and emotions rushing everywhere around Reagan and Penny. I admit it was a relief to find that Charity barely appears in this book. Great ending to an entertaining and funny series. Graphic audio is amazing.

Reviewed: 12-06-24
The whole plot about saving Charity is a bit forced, but that may also be because she is not a character able to carry the storyline by herself. However, I am fully engaged with this series to focus once again on Reagan as she finally faces her dad. I am also looking forward to read how the two seers will (not) work together. As always, Graphic Audio does a tremendous job of adapting this series.

Gideon Sable is a thief and a con man. He specializes in stealing the kind of things that can't normally be stolen. Like a ghost's clothes, or a photo from a country that never existed. He even stole his current identity. Who was he originally? Now, that would be telling. One thing's for sure though, he's not the bad guy. The people he steals from always have it coming. Gideon's planning a heist, to steal the only thing that matters from the worst man in the world. To get past his security, he's going to need a crew who can do the impossible....

The new Gideon puts together a particularly diverse crew, and has a plan to get revenge on a man that has wronged all of them. Brilliant narration by Graphic Audio as always.

High fantasy at its best

It took me almost one year to finish the Assassin's Blade and then a couple of days to finish this book. The plot is much better, at the level of the last short story (the assassin and the empire), and it's hard to put down as there's always something about to happen. I wish I've read this sooner! The narrator does a good job of distinguishing the characters but in the end I read it in one go as I felt the narration was slowing down the pace.

Celaena Sardothien grows on you
Reviewed: 21-05-24
This is a hard book to rate because it is a compilation of several short stories, and some are much better than the others. The stories follow Celaena Sardothien from being "just" an assassin to trying to make a difference and learning that no good deed goes unpunished. " The Assassin and the Pirate Lord" was good, but it took me some time to get interested in the story. "The Assassin and the Healer" is unremarkable, but I loved "The Assassin and the Desert". I wanted to know more about Sam at this point, and the remaining stories "The Assassin and the Underworld" and "The Assassin and the Empire" gave me what I asked for. The last one is heartbreaking and quite good, I read it the fastest. It paves the way for the series and makes me want to read "Throne of Glass" as soon as possible. It doesn't start strong but the ending is powerful, what a wonderful opening to the series.

This book is sometimes silly but very entertaining at poking fun of great schemes to take over the world. The dolphins are great!

Story
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Reviewed: 28-04-24
I admit I started listening just because Neil Gaiman was the narrator, but I didn't expect to like the story so much. It starts where most stories end: what if the bad evil monster wins? How does one live knowing they let down all of the Earth? This story is not only fresh, but incredibly funny. I wish I had the transcript to keep all the great dialogues between Frank and Tracy. A lot happens in each episode, and it feels like a fast radio fantasy programme. I'll probably listen to it again.

Life is busier than ever for Innkeeper, Dina DeMille and Sean Evans. But it’s about to get even more chaotic when Sean's werewolf mentor is kidnapped. To find him, they must host an intergalactic spouse-search for one of the most powerful rulers in the Galaxy. Dina is never one to back down from a challenge. That is, if she can manage her temperamental Red Cleaver chef; the consequences of her favorite Galactic ex-tyrant's dark history; the tangled politics of an interstellar nation, and oh, yes, keep the wedding candidates from a dozen alien species from killing each other.

Spouse searching
Reviewed: 20-04-24
This book is probably the best from the Inkeeper's Chronicles series. Dina and Sean must hold an event for an emperor, who is searching for a spouse among many different "viable" species on the galaxy, which includes a fish. The event is held at Gertrude Hunt since no other inkeeper wanted to hold it. This story results in a super fun plot, and we learn more about Caldenia's past and family.
Graphic audio adaptations are wonderful, but I was surprised to realise that Sean is now being voiced by Danny Gavigan. Gavigan is my favourite male voice so I was pretty pleased, and I hope he keeps voicing Sean if Graphic Audio adapt more of these books.
