As always it's so farfetcbed and whacky but that's why we love this series! Finlay gets into yet another scrape and has to juggle the mob and dangerous people with keeping her family life in check. A wonderful mix of the mundane and the whimsical, written and performed wonderfully.

Story
Deep beneath the ocean, there is a shimmering palace. Built of coral walls and windows of clearest amber, it is the kingdom of the merpeople. And one of these mermaids you might know well: she is the youngest, and is gifted with the most beautiful voice. Unhappy with her life as a mermaid, she dreams of living on dry land. One day, on her birthday, she ascends to the surface to find a magnificent three-masted ship drifting in calm waters. There, amongst the passengers, she meets the brown-eyed prince.

The story that we all know and love with a little twist. Gorgeous singing performances and a wonderful narration by one of my favourite singers - It's a shame she didn't also sing but the way she narrated the story was so captivating and brilliant.

Story
Despite his passion for baking, constant self-doubt has left him a curdled, directionless mess. So, when his roommate enters him in Bake Expectations, the nation's favourite baking show, Paris is sure he'll be the first one sent home. And yet, not only does he impress the judges and win week one's challenge—he also catches the eye of fellow contestant, Tariq Hassan. Sure, he's the competition, but he's also incredibly cute with more confidence than Paris could ever hope to have.

Brilliant storyteller, and a fun story. Let down by the protagonist.
Reviewed: 22-02-24
The reader of this story was so fun and had such dynamic voices you could always tell who was talking. The story made sense and is very easy to wrap your head around. The only thing that let it down was that the protagonist was SO whiny and annoying. It's explained why he thinks everyone and everything is going to go wrong but it's such a caricature that it's a bit grating after a while. Still a good book, I always enjoy Alexis Hall.

Interesting story let down by the characters
Reviewed: 08-09-22
Sarah Alderson writes a wonderful mystery - I was left wondering what was going to happen at all times and the reveal was satisfying enough (If a little predictable) However, she really needs to work on her characters. Not one character in this story was likeable. Hannah, being college age, felt like a whiny 8 year old girl (Not helped by the performer putting on a high pifched whiny voice every time she read her lines). Ava, the protagonist, was very stuck up and self righteous - She was a bad person throughout and showed 0 remorse for her actions. Robert was supposed to be the person who liked and hoped she'd end up with but his actions in the middle of the book when
[SPOILER] he's in prison [END SPOILER]
ruin our perception of him completely.
All in all I'd suggest you pick this up if you want a good mystery and don't care too much about liking the characters. If you want a piece where you feel sympathetic for the characters and want to connect with them give it a pass.

Really good book! Very nice pacing (Even if I would have liked a longer conclusion at the end) and the story was very engrossing with plenty of twists and A LOT of tense moments that will have you hanging on to the reader's every word. Speaking of the reader he puts in a brilliant performance. Every character is established with a different tone of voice and there was nothing that took me out or the story. Would recommend.

Story
Finlay Donovan - single mum, floundering crime writer and accidental hit-woman - is, once again, struggling to finish her crime novel. Ever since someone misinterpreted her talking about her new book, she has been busier than ever working as a hit-woman and taking on the life she usually reserves for her characters. On the bright side, the only dead body she's dealt with lately is that of her daughter's pet goldfish. On the not-so-bright side, someone wants her ex-husband dead.

As good as the first book was! Finlay Donovan returns this time to protect her ex husband against someone plotting to kill him. This book has just as many tests and turns as the first installment and is still as fun as it was before! The characters from the first are all present and still wonderfully written, the story kept me hooked and the performance was absolutely brilliant! Very excited for the third in the trilogy to release.

Story
Finlay Donovan, single mum and floundering crime writer, is having a hard time. Her ex-husband went behind her back to fire the nanny, and this morning she sent her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an unfortunate incident with scissors. Making it to lunch with her literary agent is a minor victory but, as she's discussing the plot of her latest crime novel, the conversation is misinterpreted by a woman sitting nearby as that of a hit-woman offering her services to dispose of a 'problem' husband.

Story
Two sisters go missing. Only one returns. We believe what we want to believe. We believe what we need to believe. When my sister and I disappeared three years ago, they found Emma's car at the beach. Some people believed she had gone there to find a party or meet a friend who never showed. They believed that she'd gone for a swim. They believed that she'd drowned. Maybe by accident. Maybe a suicide. Everyone believed Emma was dead. As for me, well - it was not as simple as that.
