Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

I have liked all K.L. Slater’s books so far but this one has got to be my favourite yet. I spent most of the time thinking I knew what had happened. Then in the last few chapters changed my mind more often than I do about my favourite ice cream flavour!
Definitely worth a listen!

Story
After a domestic terrorist unleashes a dirty bomb in Manhattan in 1970, making the borough uninhabitable, FBI Agent Uli Sarkisian finds himself in a world that is suddenly unrecognizable, as the United States faces its greatest immigration crisis ever: finding housing for millions of its own citizens. The federal government hastily retrofits an abandoned government installation in the Nevada desert. Despite the government's best intentions, as the military pulls out of "Rescue City", the residents are increasingly left to their own devices, and tribal gang warfare fuses with democracy.

Detective Chief Inspector Beth Fellows is thrown into the biggest case of her career: the brutal murder of Rose Danes. She quickly realizes Rose’s murder is linked to a cold case she investigated two years previously. The victim, 14-year-old Celine Wilson, survived but now languishes in a coma. Both girls were branded with the image of a raven. The only lead is a vague description and a first name, Simon.

The story itself was ok but the narrator was so bad I just gave up. The woman is supposed to be a detective but the narrator sounded as though she was trying not to cry when ever it was supposed to get exciting. It seemed very flat most of the time. I thought maybe when the mobile scene happened that maybe I worked out who did it but I’ll never know as I just don’t want to listen to anymore of that voice.

I have to admit, I much preferred the “Cuckoo Song “. The narrator was fantastic and I’d have probably given up if it wasn’t for her. It’s not necessarily a bad book but I don’t think it kept me as interested as the other.

The book itself is what kept me listening. I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately I didn’t like the narration, it was very frustrating. I’m sure if I got a copy of the book it would show the narrator paused slightly at the end of every line not just sentence. It’s a shame as I think I want to listen to book 2 but it is read by the same person and I don’t think I can listen to him for another 10 hours
