Story
Callum and his three best friends are celebrating their eighteenth birthdays with an epic camping trip to the mysterious Llanddwyn Island, off the coast of Anglesey. Then Callum disappears, and the others return to the mainland in a state of shock. When his body is discovered, DI Laura Hart is brought in to investigate. Is the murder the work of the Fair Men, a pagan group with a dark history who still hold their ceremonies on the island? Or were the boys less tight-knit than they would have Laura believe?

Story
Detective Constable Angus MacVicar has just landed his dream job – transferred out of uniform and assigned to Oldcastle’s biggest ongoing murder investigation: Operation Telegram, hunting the “Fortnight Killer”. Every two weeks another couple is targeted. One victim is left at the scene, their corpse used as a twisted message board. The second body is never seen again. This should be the perfect chance for Angus to prove himself, but instead of working on the investigation’s front line, he’s lumbered with the forensic psychologist from hell.

Having been a DI Logan fan since the beginning, I do still miss him. BUT I have grown to like the new main character in thus book and how he has evolved just in this book. I hope this is the start of a new series as it sounds like it will be a great mix having a Scot amongst the Americans 😀

Excellent story and great twists. J D Kirk still the king of murder mystery and crazy people 😂
Reviewed: 09-01-24
Initially, when Heather appeared in the Logan series she wasn't very likeable to me and was glad to see the back of her angry, sarcastic character. And then low and behold a series link started with her as the main character and I thought, oh gawd, how can I do this. BUT as ever, as the character developed we now see a different, likeablepolice officer and I really like her with PC Swanny and Acer. It's a great team. You always think you've guessed what's going to happen and then Mr Kirk slams you with a twist and then another. Before you know it, it's 5am and you promised you were only going to do 'one more chapter'. I love JD Kirk's writing style and the Logan Series and Hoon Series as well, I look forward to the next installments so much. So, if you want a Fantastic murder mystery series that will knock your socks off with some amazing murders, mad-cap escapades, laugh out loud moments and twists and turns - start now! BRILLIANT. Thank you JD Kirk xx

You wake on a beautiful, remote island. Sparkling blue seas, golden sunsets, barely a footprint in the sand. Yet this is no ordinary escape. Next to the wreck of a plane, a stranger paces. Another sharpens a knife, scoring a list of the dead onto a palm tree. Others watch from the shadows of a campfire—all with untold stories, and closely-guarded secrets.

Great audio, not the best story

Can't believe I fell for the hype, really need to stop doing that. But glad I listened to it on Audible and not wasted precious reading hours on it as I probably would have given up half way through. l have read 100's of books and this is not a thriller, nor scary, maybe a mystery category where the mystery is solved but mostly It's about relationships.
It is rare I leave anything for a 5 star, and I really wouldn't normally unless I feel totally cheated, and I do in this case. Too many gaps and information missing that could have made this so much more. My apologies to those who loved it , Opinions are just that of course.
