Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Can women have it all? What does it mean to be a woman and a mother in the modern age?

In this passionate, funny and fierce polemic, Paloma Faith delves deep into the issues that face women today, from puberty and sexual awakenings, to battling through the expectations of patriarchy and the Supermum myth.

Infused with Paloma's characteristic humour and raw honesty about the challenges of IVF and the early years of motherhood, this book is a beautiful celebration of women's work and the invisible load women carry. Moving from questions around identity and how motherhood impacts on that, to what it even means to be a "good mother", how we need to embrace messiness, imperfection and the bitter sweet pleasures of being "selfish" and putting ourselves first.

Paloma invites us into her own coming of age and relationship with her mum, to explore how our bonds with our children evolve into adulthood. We see a glimpse of the complexities and joys of Paloma's experience of juggling romantic love, heartbreak and dating with the demands of motherhood.

Honest and relatable

I don't really have a criticism of the book. It felt honest and real and relatable, without missing out any of the more gory or disgusting details. There aren't that many people who are able to do that. I always prefer it when the author narrates as well.

A profound reflection capturing the essence of motherhood, love, and self-discovery. MUST READ FOR MUMS

This book flawlessly captured a world of truth—my world. It delved into the essence of motherhood, the journey it entails, and the disappointments from lovers. It explored the lingering questions: What if? Am I truly happy? Could I do this alone, and would I be happier if I did? It felt as if this book articulated my innermost thoughts and emotions. The narrative resonated deeply, offering a profound reflection of my experiences, my struggles, and my hopes. Every page felt like a mirror, reflecting the complexities of my life and providing a sense of understanding and solace.

Honest open heart reality of living life as a woman, mother and keeping the wolf from the door.

Paloma writes beautifully, an honesty from her heart. I’ve been listening to this in two settings one in my poly tunnel where my veg grow, and two in a hammock in the garden. I’m a mother of four kids all grown up now and three grandkids.
Paloma touched so many nerves of reality in my early life as a mother with all my children , I found her stripping back the romantic patriarchal notions of being the perfect mother very reawakening. I too struggled in many areas so similar to those Paloma describes.
Her hard hit truths are a must hear for any woman and without blinkers men too.
Thanks, Paloma , it was good to meet you in my garden a couple of summers ago. I loved meeting your girls and your entourage.. I had no idea you could write so articulately. I hope you’ve got some time one day to write another book.
Thanks for your time and this amazing offering.
With love and big respect sister
