Summary

Luxury villas on hot white sand, views for miles over turquoise water.
Flawless hostess Penny gathers guests to an island for her husband’s birthday celebrations.
But she soon regrets inviting self-obsessed Eloise…

When a child vanishes on the night of the party, their perfect island weekend is ripped apart. Even paradise harbours murky secrets…
Has he been taken? Has he drowned?

In the panic to find any trace, Penny casts about for someone to blame—even if that person is her own daughter, Rosie. Even clear waters descend to pitch black…

But it’s not the first time Rosie’s been attacked by her mother. And it’s not the first time she’s turned to Eloise for support.

As the sun beats down and dark secrets rise to the surface, can they find the missing child before it’s too late—or will this sudden disappearance endanger them all? …and someone among them knows the whole shocking truth

Great setting

The holiday setting was like another character. Easy to see what was coming but it didn’t distract from enjoyment. Great characters, well defined. One small thing, I found it a bit difficult to discern between the two female protagonists at time but it didn’t distract from my enjoyment.

not bad

I won't give any spoilers but what happened to her watch??? Did I miss this or is there a loose end there? Overall not a bad story. characters are quite hard to warm to, and story took a while to get going.

Really enjoyable and well narrated

I really enjoyed this, it was great hearing the Australian narration. On my visits to Rottnest Island I never knew that there was this whole culture going on which does make sense. I liked how the different women were presented and you grew to know them - I am not going to say like them because there were some really unlikeable traits especially in the beginning.

The two fold narration worked well and I enjoyed it.
Another great find on the audible plus catalogue and I have gone right on to add another book by this author to my ever growing to listen pile.

Gripped from the beginning!

I was totally gripped, I was listening where ever I could! Great story. Will look for other stories from the author.

Thought there would be a good twist

I was an ok audio book, very simplistic and not really a thriller. Nothing really happens but it’s still worth a listen. The main character Penny is such a bully in the beginning and quite hard to warm too, and I struggled to have any sympathy for her. But for a freebie it’s worth a listen

Easy listen

I found the two main ladies hard to like!! It was interesting hearing both sides of the story and was well narrated but I did find myself getting irritated by the two thinking I’d probably not enjoy their company. Yet the story was ok

Eventually it finished well

This was well read, but contained a frustrating amount of unnecessary description and detail that I almost gave up. Although it did finish well, it was such a long journey ( and boringly so) to get there.

Very descriptive and long winded

I nearly gave up with this book many times. It’s so descriptive and the main characters are not that believable. However it did eventually have a good twist.

Really enjoyed this story

I liked hearing the different and quite complex perspectives of both women amongst the aura of mystery

Good story

It went on too long, too much repetition. The narrators whined, but then so did their characters.
