Summary
#1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson expands his Cosmere universe shared by The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn with a new standalone novel for everyone who loved The Princess Bride. Narrated by Michael Kramer.
The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?
Note from Brandon:
I started writing this in secret, as a novel just for my wife. She urged me to share it with the world—and alongside three other secret novels, with the support of readers worldwide it grew into the biggest Kickstarter campaign of all time. I’m excited to present this first book to you at last: a different type of Brandon Sanderson story, one I wrote when there were no time constraints, no expectations, and no limits on my imagination. Come be part of the magic.

Something special
It was something special to have a book from the perspective of the most elusive being in the cosmere. This story hit all the right notes. A fantastic addition to the cosmere.

THIS IS NOT JUST ANOTHER COSMERE STORY!!!
I love Sandersons work, his Cosmere universe and magic systems have always blown my mind. The details and systems he creates makes you feel as if each is completely plausible.
THIS IS ANOTHER STORY!!! THIS WARMED MY VERY SOUL!
The story of a girl setting off on a grand adventure to save the man she loves from the mighty sorceress.
Challenging the very forces of investiture that shape her planet. Who knew you could tell a story with such a rich set of characters.
Yet in the face of another epic fantastical setting from Brandon. I found a story that ebbs pure soul and joy. not that his other work isn't INCREDIBLE!!! Tress, Charlie, Capt Crow and how could I forget Doug, Doug, Doug and Doug.
(Oh and Wits best appearance by far. I need more cursed Hoid)
Even the lessons it delivers come so perfectly packaged. last time I felt this warmth with a book was Narnia, The railway children, Wind in the Willows or even The Alchemist.

What can I say? I loved this book it's enjoyable, whimsical and had me in stitches at times. Some of the characters are very recognisable from the cosmere.

Whimsical Sanderson at his best
Setting out to write an adult fairytale, Sanderson hit every mark as always. Familiar narrators are the verdant spore on the cake.

Fabulous
This book is definitely up to Sanderson's usual standard. It is a lovely listen. It is compelling in a hope filled and positive way. I love that Sanderson's characters have flaws, but the flaws don't become black holes which suck all events or interactions around them with no escape for either the character or the reader. Thank you for the light!
