Summary
While she has elbowed her way into an elite team investigating non-domestic murders, there is nothing elite about her first assignments: a missing teenager cold case and an apparent suicide Tennison suspects is, in fact, murder.
But as she uncovers explosive evidence, Tennison's new colleagues watch like vultures circling prey. And, one by one, the cases no one else wanted are taken from her - and the glory along with them.
Now Tennison has had enough: of the rampant sexism, snide remarks and undermining. It's time to take what is rightfully hers from those who have held her back.
She just has to do what she does best: find her prime suspect . . .

Jane’s tenacity
Jane’s character is very strong - has worked hard to attain her promotions but still does not get the recognition and respect from her male counterparts

Misogyny at its best!
I have loved this early Tennison series and looking forward to re listening to Prime Suspect.
I have to be honest, I had to fast forward when Jane got shafted by her colleague ( don’t want to give anything away!) I literally skipped a couple of episodes! I worked in a big organisation during these books relate to and maybe it just brought back the out and out misogyny that existed.
As always, brilliant writing and well worth a listen.

The book that leads us into Prime Suspect
Satisfying to read this last book in the prequel books which lead to the start of the Prime Suspect books. This one places Jane in the run up to being allocated her first major murder investigation in charge and how she has to fight to get it. Jane discovers more prejudice and misogyny from fellow officers and in Whole Life Sentence we see how she deals with both these in her usual feisty manner! It encourages one to go straight to Prime Suspect and listen to the three books again and see how she develops. So good to hear Rachel Atkins once more voicing Jane’s progress.

Couldn’t stop until the end
I’ve read all the previous ones and couldn’t wait for the final one. I have to be honest it saddens me that a career of a female officer (or any other career for for a female) have to still suffer prejudices of male colleagues, making so difficult to have any opportunity of promotion. I did expect more for Jane but understand Linda wanted to show the reality.
