What personal data will the BBC collect and how will we use it?

The BBC will collect your personal data for the purposes of administrating our complaints, enquiries and feedback process. The BBC will collect the personal data via an online platform used by the BBC.

Your personal data will be used by us to consider and investigate your complaint, enquiry or comment. We will also use your personal data in order for us to contact you, either to request further information about your enquiry or complaint, or to send you a response.

Information relating to the complaints and enquiries that the BBC receives will also be used by the BBC for reporting purposes. Your personal data will be aggregated with other individuals who contact the BBC’s data to prepare these reports. This means that we will not be able to identify you from the information held in our reports. These reports may be used by the BBC to understand any themes or trends from the feedback we receive.

Who is the Data Controller?

The BBC works with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the BBC and not independently of the BBC.

Retaining your personal data

The BBC retains the personal data obtained from complaints and comments for different lengths of time, depending on the nature of your complaint or comment. The retention period will be determined by the BBC’s Corporate Retention Policy.

Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).
