Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden was the album Huey would play when he was adjusting to normal life after leaving the US Marines, today he'll be sharing it with you, in full.

It's an album that the band were not expected to make. Having been given free rein in the studio, their record label were expecting them to deliver a follow up to The Colour Of Spring, and more international hit singles. What the band gave them were 6 tracks of improvised performances that drew on a jazz, classical and ambient influences. It was a world away from the sophisticated pop album that the label had expected, and it lead to a bitter court case, with the result that the band were freed from their contract, and released the album on another imprint.

In the years since its release the album has gone on to gain fans from across the musical world, artists like Radiohead, Blur, Elbow, Doves, and Grandaddy, as well as having a huge influence on the post-rock genre.

Huey will be playing the album in full, interspersed with contributions from Phill Brown, who engineered the album, alongside superfans including Joan As Policewoman, Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) and The Last Dinosaur.

This programme is part of BBC Music’s support for the first ever National Album Day, which takes place on Saturday 13th October with programming on Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, 5 Live, 6 Music, BBC One and BBC Four across the week or on the day itself.
