Footage shows Portsmouth high-tide flooding

High tides combined with strong winds left roads submerged and sea water lapping at the doors of homes in areas of Portsmouth.

The coast at Old Portsmouth, Spice Island and the Gunwharf area were deluged overnight and waves crashed over the sea wall near Clarence Pier.

Ahead of the high tide, floodgates and flood boards were put in place by the city council to protect homes and businesses.

The area is expected to record its highest-ever tides, the Environment Agency has said.
