FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

We all loved Melbourne, however having 2 autistic children it was at times overwhelming, in particular the Queen Victoria Winter Market, was hard to move through with all the people. Most of the main attractions we did visit and loved. The amount of road works was crazy. One thing my children commented on was the people are not as friendly as Tassie, we are use to smiling and saying hello to passers by, with that reciprocated, but that does not happen in Melbourne.

4 days were the best family road trip.

4 days were the best family road trip. Twice i took the wrong turn on M1 highway (despite GPS on my phone and Tomtom guiding me). Lots to eat and lots to do. Just 3 hours away from snow capped mountains. Will definitely go again.

Love Melbourne city, always a large selection of exhibitions, galleries, river tours available. Love the riverbank bars and restaurants and South bank shore walk. Trams are great and cover all every area of Melbourne, free travel in Zone one, makes it so easy to get around. Recommend a great Italian restaurant in Little Bourke St, '+39 Pizzeria', homemade pasta, great menu, great service. Good counter meals at the 'Elephant & Wheelbarrow' (Bourke St) and 'The Charles Dickens Tavern' (underground) in the Block Arcade (old place, good food) The 'Hophaus', German bar on Southbank, good beer, cider and food. Step back in time in 'Collins Coffee House' corner of Collins and Queens Streets. Beautiful Gothic building, houses the 'Banking Museum' and history of the ANZ bank, worth a look, Coffee. high tea and history all in one place.

Our visit was mainly to see family.

Our visit was mainly to see family. Personally I loved Albert Park! It was a delight to see so many people exercising every day and it is such a great recreational space. Tram travel was easy. Melbourne city could do with a clean up. It looks pretty shabby and many unused shops, but service and food in the laneways was great. I would recommend the Arts Market on Sunday. Some beautiful handcrafted items including jars of delicious chutneys and jams as well as lovely prints by Peter Pascoe, a chatty local artist.

Great apartment - close to everything (South Melbourne markets, Shrine of remembrance, Crown Casino, Southbank, Melbourne CBD) - Really easy to access public transport. There are also a number of the electric scooters available in the area which are quite fun. Overall my partner and I had a great stay - The staff were lovely, the apartment was lovely and kitchen well-equipped. Would stay again :) Also make sure you check out the viewing deck on level 20 if there is availability - beautiful panoramic views of the city's skyline.

Location was great & reception staff were really fantastic. Enthusiastic & helpful for where the main shopping & DFO locations were in the city. We caught an Uber to/from the hotel from the airport & otherwise walked the CBD. Hotel was a block from the central train station under the main shopping complex. Really good restaurants & shopping mall nearby, as well as princess theatre & her majesties theatre a 10 minute walk away (we went to both for shows during our stay!)

The hotel is very nicely designed, bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel tv in the room also had free movies available without the need for streaming platforms. Location was ok- 14 minute walk from Skybus terminal in the city that connects travellers to Melbourne airport. Something to note: the hotel is on the outskirts of the central busy CBD area (approx 30-40min walk or 15 Min uber).
