South-east of Birmingham, Coventry is best known for the shell of its old cathedral, a poignant reminder of the damage sustained during World War II. Part of its northern wall joins the new Modernist cathedral, designed by Sir Basil Spence.
In the neighbouring gardens are remains of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery set up by Lord Leofric. His wife - Lady Godiva - became Coventry’s greatest legend by riding naked on horseback in protest at her husband’s high taxes.
St Mary’s Guildhall is built on part of the old castle, and Baginton on the city’s outskirts houses the reconstructed Roman Lunt Fort. Also here is Coventry Airport, by the Midland Air Museum, whose exhibits include a Vulcan.
The Coventry Transport Museum houses examples of vehicles manufactured in the city over the years. Also historic are the canals north of the city centre, lined by Grade II-listed buildings. Other attractions include the Warwick Arts Centre – the UK’s 2nd largest – and the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC. The Sky Dome Arena is an ice hockey and music venue, while the best shopping is found in Arena Park Centre.
The city has 2 universities, so naturally features many bars and restaurants. There are also several Coventry hotels, guest houses and country houses on Booking.com, most with parking and some with pools.

It's a funny place - a mixture of new and old - but I love it. Whatever you do or don't believe, you absolutely must visit the cathedral. Start in the ruins and walk through to the new cathedral; it looks quite plain inside but, when you get to the far end, turn around and you'll find it really is a box of jewels. Herbert gallery definitely worth a visit, Holy Trinity and St. John the Baptist beautiful too. Lady Herbert's garden is a must as well.
I'm gluten-free, so the Golden Cross pub is perfect for me; cafe Italia is also great.
I still have no idea how the bus network works... would a simple diagram be too much to ask? But the centre is very walkable, so you may not need this anyway.

Our short visit to Coventry was for a hospital appointment.
Our short visit to Coventry was for a hospital appointment. We have just moved down south having lived in Coventry all my life. Everyone should visit the Cathedral old and new. Also the Transport Museum and area around Holy Trinity Church. The Italian Cafe opposite Sainsbury’s is very good and staff are very friendly. Lots of restaurants in Broadgate by Lady Godiva. Be sure to watch Peeping Tom as the clock strikes the hour.

As former residence of Coventry we didn't visit the city.
As former residence of Coventry we didn't visit the city. We were going to Oxford and the Cocked Hat was ideally placed for outward and return journeys from Yorkshire.
One place that we always visit in Coventry is the War Memorial Park which is good for a walk with free parking for 3 hours and a park and ride bus running every half hour.

I have visited Coventry a few times and every time I come back I am pleased with my trip. Beautiful architecture and friendly people. The diverse food options are great and the food is tasty and cheap! Citizens are helpful and polite which is refreshing when you’re from down south. Popeys and Chinese kitchen are always a bargain and full of flavour, although they are not in the city centre but they are worth a try :)
The cathedral is always worth a visit! As well as the museum which is next to it, there are lots of statues and details which hold the city’s culture and history.
The market is also worth a visit full of culture from Irish to African, the people are welcoming and are not trying to haggle your money. It is easy to get around as everything is closer than you would expect.

As the ‘motor city’ Coventry should have better traffic...
As the ‘motor city’ Coventry should have better traffic management; it’s a bit of a nightmare to navigate at busy times. But there are many worthy attractions and Coventry is starting to move out from under the shadow of Birmingham. The new rail station is good to see and there are so many lovely old buildings to explore. (The latter somewhat reduce the impact of so many high rise student flats. What possessed the local council to dish out so many permits for student accom? They do not enhance the skyline, never mind the well-being of residents.)
The hotel was very modern inside and nice. The room was nice and clean, it was modern. The breakfast was fantastic, really tasty, fresh and well worth paying for I would 100% recommend. The staff at breakfast were lovely. The hotel was in a great location, on the edge of Coventry City Centre. There was a lovely Greek place not far away. Other restaurants/ takeaways/ pubs and convenience stores right outside the hotel.
We booked this hotel last minute having cancelled our holiday in London due to the petrol shortages. This is a wonderful 'olde worlde' hotel with very professional staff. There is an excellent menu at very reasonable prices. We would not hesitate to book there again. A 15 minute drive into Coventry city centre.
We chose this hotel as being the nearest most justifiable price for a Concert at Coventry Ricoh Arena. I would recommend Dhillons Brewery near the arena in the industrial estate if attending an event at the arena, we travelled around by Uber.
For a motorway hotel this is a genuinely good place to stay. Conveniently located close to Coventry. The rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful. Have stayed here a few times now.
Hotel is an absolute gem in the middle of Coventry. So quirky and really celebrates the history of the building. Breakfast was buffet style and was excellent. Bar area is nice and relaxed too
