THREE buildings near Bridgwater could soon be demolished in place of a new two-storey house.

Adams Building Limited is seeking Somerset Council's permission to build a new house after knocking down buildings at 59A Broadway, Chilton Polden.

In a planning application submitted to the council, the applicant states that the three existing single-storey buildings are unsuitable for conversion to residential use due to their layout and 'construction methods employed.'

"The limited size of these buildings, the shared access arrangements, and the predominantly residential locale would limit the extent that the premises could continue to be used, for commercial use," the applicant wrote.

"The proposal does seek to retain the two smaller buildings, using the central building as a carport with minimal alteration required."

It is proposed that the planned new dwelling will look in character with surrounding properties and buildings, using a mixture of stone and rendered elevations, plus a clay tiled roof.
