Ipswich Town midfielder Idris El Mizouni will soon join newly-promoted Championship club Oxford United in a £400k deal, the EADT and Ipswich Star understands.

The 23-year-old had plenty of interest after impressing on loan at Leyton Orient over the past two seasons, helping them win League Two and then finish 11th in League One.

Town recently took up their one-year extension clause in the Paris-born player's contract to protect him as an asset.

League One club Barnsley are understood to have also pushed hard for his signature, but the one-cap Tunisian international has opted to join Oxford on a three-year deal after they secured promotion to the second-tier via the play-offs. He will join up with former Blues duo Greg Leigh and Kyle Edwards at the Kassam Stadium.

El Mizouni joined Town's academy as a teenager. He made his senior debut in the latter stages of the Blues' Championship relegation season in 2019, Paul Lambert introducing him off the bench in a 1-1 draw at Bristol City.

He went on to 16 starts and 10 sub appearances for the Blues, mixed around loan spells at Cambridge United and Grimsby, featuring briefly under both Paul Cook and Kieran McKenna.

He will become Town's second sale of the summer after striker Gassan Ahadme recently made a £1m switch to Charlton.
