A coastal town's new discount supermarket has been given the go-ahead once again after new plans were submitted to expand the shop floor.

Supermarket giant Lidl submitted a fresh bid to Great Yarmouth Borough Council this year to change the layout of the store planned for the former Trafalgar College site in Thamesfield Way.

It will replace the existing shop in Pasteur Road, which has to close before the new premises opens to prevent unfair competition between competitor supermarkets.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council development committee members agreed unanimously to the changes, which seek to increase the size of the sales area, which will be 42pc bigger than its current store.

There had been concerns that trade in the town's high street could be affected by the opening of the supermarket.

However, it was decided that it would not have a significant effect on the number of people visiting the shops in the town centre.

Trafalgar College, a free school set up in 2016, was demolished to make way for the new shop.
