Weydon School’s under-13 girls football team have become Surrey county champions after a convincing 3-0 win in the county cup final.

This trophy completed the treble, after Weydon had previously won the district cup and league.

Lucy Harper, head of PE at Weydon, said: “I could not be prouder of how the girls performed – the win has capped off a brilliant season and we look forward to next year.”

The standard of girls’ football at the school has been really impressive this season and participation continues to rise - more than 100 Weydon girls have played competitively this year.

Also enjoying a trophy-winning season are Liphook United’s under-ten Spiders.

Newly formed at the start of the 2023-24 season, Liphook Spiders are going from strength to strength. They played their second cup final of the season on May 19, when the team went head to head with Liphook’s other under-ten team in the same division, Liphook Stingrays.

There was much excitement from the sidelines watching both Liphook teams work hard throughout the match.

Liphook Spiders won the cup by a final score of 4-2. The Spiders’ goals came from William, Coen and Edi, who netted twice. The Stingrays’ goals were scored by Amber and Stanley.

Both teams deserved to be in the final as they had shown great determination and progression throughout the season. The club gave huge congratulations to both teams.
