(Original Caption) Jack Dempsey, former heavyweight champion of the world, examines the sparring gloves of Max Baer, whose match with Max Schmeling on June 8th at the Yankee Stadium is being promoted by the former. Baer, in ring costume, does not look as though he weighed 226 pounds, eighteen pounds of which he expects to take off before climbing into the ring to meet the former German heavyweight champion of the world. Baer is said to resemble Dempsey in some ways, particularly as regards the tremendous nervous energy which he possesses.
