Dr. Murad Wilfried Hofmann (b. 1931, Aschaffenburg, Germany) is a prominent German diplomat and author. He has authored several books on Islam, including Journey to Makkah and Islam: The Alternative. Many of his books and essays focus on Islam's place in the West and, after September 11, in particular, in the United States. He is one of the signatories of A Common Word Between Us and You, an open letter by Islamic scholars to Christian leaders, calling for peace and understanding.

Good Introduction to Islam & the Qur'an. Clarifies conceptions, well and boldly written. The organisation of chapters seemed a bit haphazard to me but the eloquent writing style quite grabbed my attention. The author is very well versed with what he is talking about.
