A man who was involved in a violent altercation with a police officer has been sentenced for assaulting another officer.

Michael McQueen, 37, of Hall Quay in Great Yarmouth, also pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and a sexual assault.

McQueen appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court following his arrest on Haven Bridge in the early hours of May 31.

McQueen was found on the bridge shouting and swearing. While being questioned at Great Yarmouth Police Station, McQueen spat at an officer.

At his hearing later on May 31, McQueen received 28 weeks in custody following his admission to a public order offence and assaulting an officer.

He also received an additional four weeks to his sentence after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman at HMP Norwich on December 21.

Earlier in May, McQueen was also involved in a violent altercation with a police officer on St Peter's Road, Yarmouth, which was caught on video and circulated on social media.

The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), and the investigation is expected to last several months.

The officer has not been at work since then, although Norfolk Constabulary say he has not been suspended.
