A fresh theatre show probes societal expectations with the help of the women of a Norfolk town.

The production, 'TAMED or It’s Hard To Get A Real Horse', is a collaboration by the theatre company Flight of the Escales and women in Great Yarmouth.

Written and directed by Sarah Calver, the play will be at St George's Theatre between July 10 and 13.

Inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, the all-female cast examines how individuals are influenced by societal constructs.

Ms Calver worked closely with the women of Great Yarmouth over six months and their tales of daily life influenced the play's material.

She said: “I have been working with inspirational women in Great Yarmouth for several months, and they all have stories to tell about the expectations placed on them by society."

Components of the play include community responses such as costumes made by various groups and donated wedding dresses stitched together.

The unique structure of St George’s Theatre is set to be featured prominently, mirroring the uniqueness of the community the play represents.

This ambitious performance was produced in partnership with St George’s Theatre, and Norwich Theatre – Beyond Stages.

Debbie Thompson, director of St George’s Theatre, said: “We are very excited about the production, it is fantastic to have St George's Theatre celebrated by creating a show that uses its uniqueness and beauty as a venue."
