Tell us about yourselves and when did you start collaborating?
We are Marie Kallevik Straume, Anna Marie Simonsen and Cecily Nash, the creators of Troll. The comedy is our debut as a trio. Marie and Cecily met and graduated from Ecole Jacques Lecoq, and Anna Marie graduated from Goldsmiths University in London. We connected through our obsession with clown and comedy.
How did the idea for Troll come about?
We had a week of research and development and found some very stupid noses and tails in a costume shop. From there we knew we should be clown trolls. There are many myths about trolls in Norway, so we thought it could be fun to imagine how the trolls would present themselves if they were given an hour in a theatre with humans in the audience.
“Queens of the ridiculous” is quite the accolade! Can you share some of the hilarious moments from your creative process in developing the humour and absurdity in the show?
The process of getting to know the costume: we sat on our tails and stepped on our noses and had very dramatic reactions to the pain and inconvenience.
Congratulations on your win at Oslo Fringe! What surprises and delights can audiences expect from your performance at Jacksons Lane, and what makes it a must-see show?
Thank you! There’s slapstick, silliness and a lot to learn about Trolls. Perhaps you’ve often wondered what Trolls actually think about the world and their human neighbours.
