Full Job Description

As a Building Performance Engineer with a net zero carbon focus, you will be carrying out reviews of existing buildings/sites to identify potential decarbonisation opportunities. You will be authoring and checking decarbonisation plans for existing buildings and decarbonisation approaches/net zero carbon roadmaps. You will be formulating energy strategy approaches for new build projects/developments with support from other Arup specialists, identifying appropriate energy modelling approaches and Interpreting energy modelling results.

In this role you will be expected to have a high level of understanding with regards to MEP building services systems across a range of building sectors, their associated energy consumption and the key factors/interventions that affect them. You will work closely with the energy modelling team where required to help quantify the impact of energy saving solutions on projects. If you have a broad appreciation of mechanical and electrical building services systems across a range of building sectors and a real interest in Net Zero Carbon, we want to hear from you.

  • BEng, Meng or MSC in Building Services Engineering, energy or related field.

  • Good appreciation of UKGBC, LETI & CIBSE publications and net zero approaches.

  • Familiar with the building energy modelling process and how this can be implemented effectively on projects.

  • A background in contributing to design notes, reports and general correspondence.

  • Knowledgeable of key considerations at different building design stages, construction & in-use.

    The Opportunity

    Based in the Midlands across two centres in Birmingham and Nottingham, our multi-disciplinary team offers a wide range of skills and services on projects based, locally, nationally, and internationally. As part of this team our building services engineers help our clients and collaborators work toward their sustainability targets. This includes developing estate wide net zero roadmaps, creating low/zero carbon building designs and carrying out advanced energy modelling for accreditations such as Nabers Design for Performance.

    We are seeking a person to join our Birmingham team, who is passionate about the transition to net zero, as a member of our team you will be given the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects supporting both local, national and global clients. The successful candidate will become part of our building engineering team with a focus on decarbonising existing client buildings/building portfolio's and working with design teams in developing net zero carbon solutions for new build projects. This will involve a mixture of working both independently on stand-alone net zero carbon commissions and as part of our multidisciplinary building design teams, developing low energy design approaches.
