Cafe Assistant / Barista

Underfall Cafe is looking for a new member to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity in Bristol's beloved Harbour at a crucial time in the Trust's journey to recovery following the fire in May 2023.

The café is based in the historic Underfall Yard at the far end of Bristol's harbour, serving up breakfast, brunch and lunches, as well as speciality coffee and homemade baked goods throughout the morning and afternoon. We stock plenty of local produce and use independent where possible. Here at Underfall Yard, we are proud to be a proper Bristol Establishment.

We are open 6 days a week from 9am - 4:30/5.30pm (Winter/Summer) meaning that you are able to keep your evenings free, striking that good work/life balance.

The ideal candidate will have proficient barista skills as well as experience working in a cafe environment or a similar hospitality setting. Some kitchen training or enthusiasm to learn would also be beneficial.

We are a small team so willingness to help between sections is a must, this to include Barista, working the till, running food and drinks and KP duties when necessary.

Our team is an important part of what makes up our working life here so enthusiasm and consideration for people as well as food, is ESSENTIAL.

We value our returning customers, so great customer rapport is important.

Weekend availability is a must.,

  Underfall Yard Cafe is based in Underfall Yard, a working boatyard that welcomes visitors. The whole of the yard, including the café, is managed by Underfall Yard Trust, an independent charity. The yard is home to maritime businesses, including traditional boatbuilders, the Harbour Master team and the Docks Engineer team.


Our Visitor Centre, where our Cafe is based, opened in March 2016 with support from many funders, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

In May 2023 Underfall Yard was victim of a devastating arson attack destroying several of our workshops and we are working towards reinstating these historic buildings. Income from the cafe is put back into the charity and helps us deliver our charitable goals.
