Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Enforcement Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe environment by investigating incidents of illegal waste disposal (fly-tipping), collecting and documenting evidence, and following legal and procedural guidelines to enforce environmental regulations., Respond promptly to reports of fly-tipping within the designated area.
Conduct thorough site inspections to identify and document illegal waste disposal activities.
Collect and Document Evidence:

Search for and collect evidence at fly-tipping sites, including physical items, documents, and other relevant materials.
Photograph evidence in situ to ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of the scene.
Record Evidence Using a PACE Notebook:

Maintain detailed and accurate records of all observations and collected evidence in a Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) notebook.
Ensure all entries meet legal standards for admissibility in court proceedings.
Manage Evidence Handling:

Properly book in and store collected evidence back at the office, following all established protocols for evidence management.
Maintain a secure and organized evidence storage system.
Follow Established Procedures and Protocols:

Adhere to all departmental processes and guidelines for investigation, evidence collection, and documentation.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Liaise with Other Departments and Agencies:

Work collaboratively with other departments, local authorities, and external agencies to address environmental enforcement issues.
Provide detailed reports and updates on ongoing investigations and enforcement actions.
Engage with the Community:

Educate and engage with the public on the importance of proper waste disposal and the consequences of fly-tipping.
Assist in community outreach programs aimed at reducing environmental crime.

Degree or certification in environmental science, law enforcement, or a related field (preferred).
Experience:

Previous experience in environmental enforcement, law enforcement, or a related field (preferred).
Experience in evidence collection, investigation, and documentation.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong observational and analytical skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using digital cameras and basic office software.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Physical fitness to carry out site inspections and evidence collection.
