The Company

Notch Communications has grown and evolved into a leading marketing agency that collaborates with some of the world’s most prominent and highly respected chemical, pharmaceutical, and niche biotech organisations.

Offering a complete suite of services, Notch Communications diverse B2B support includes; Brand Development, Lead Generation, Content Marketing, Events & Exhibitions and Digital Marketing solutions.

The Role

This is an outstanding and rare opportunity for someone with ambitions of becoming a Finance Director. You will join a growing business as Finance Manager. Reporting to the CEO, you will be the sole internal finance resource supporting the business, taking ownership and responsibility for the development and growth of the finance function. This will be achieved with support, guidance, and mentorship of a highly experienced portfolio CFO, an expert in this specific sector.

Historically, all of Notch Communications’ financial processes and reporting have been completed by the external accountants or the CEO. This role represents a move towards establishing a dedicated in house finance function. You will work with the CEO, Customer Service Director (CSD) and external accountants to optimise the current accounting and financial reporting processes, and establish new approaches where necessary to improve business efficiency and performance.

You’ll be working to help manage budgets and drive better commercial understanding throughout the agency as a finance business partner – ultimately contributing towards their ambitious growth strategy. As this is a stand alone finance role, you will also be responsible for managing day-to-day bookkeeping and bill payments, as well as overseeing invoicing and providing monthly reporting to the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting in support of Notch Communications Ltd’s ambitious growth strategy.
  • Deliver monthly reports to the Board, bringing together management accounts, P&L data and performance analysis compared with budgets and goals.
  • Work closely with the CSD and client relations team to ensure accuracy of internal sales and cost-of-sales reports, using Xero and Synergist.
  • Collaborate with department heads on financial strategies and cost- saving initiatives.
  • Over time, provide advice and support towards ongoing business strategy and decision making.
  • Oversee invoicing, bookkeeping, and monthly reporting, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial operations.
  • Manage the payment of bills and account reconciliations, and maintain financial stability.
  • Handle payroll and pensions management (with external suppliers), guaranteeing timely and accurate payments to employees.
  • Work with external accountants to bring monthly management accounts creation in house.
  • Proactively pursue debtors and manage cash flow to optimise the agency's financial health.
  • Collaborate with external accountants to enable accurate and efficient filing of records and accounts, including quarterly VAT reporting and annual year-end statements, and P11D returns.
  • Ensure timely payment of staff wages and expenses, working with external payroll provider to streamline existing internal process for collating and reporting monthly payroll changes.
  • Liaise with external suppliers to ensure compliance with financial regulations, including staying current with changing regulations and industry best practices.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate candidate will:

  • Be a Qualified Accountant (ICAS, ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or Qualified by Experience,
  • Demonstrate significant hands on experience of the preparation on management accounts and implementing/improving financial processes and controls,
  • Possess excellent knowledge of the use of Excel as an analytical tool,
  • Have experience of accounting and bookkeeping software (Xero and Synergist project management software experience would beneficial).

On Offer

This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis with a salary up to £55,000 depending on experience. In addition there is a generous benefits package including but not limited to:

  • flexible, hybrid working,
  • extensive healthcare benefits,
  • investment in professional development and,
