Full Job Description

This role involves assisting councils in improving the natural environment for their communities and helping to ensure street cleaning services are efficient and good value for money. You will be undertaking street cleanliness surveys using a pre-set methodology, essentially a visual inspection working in 50m transect to assess a set of pre-determined indicators such as levels of litter, detritus, graffti, flyposting and weeds graded on a scale from A-D.,

  • Conduct street cleanliness surveys to a high standard, in accordance with a standard methodology and agreed timescales;

  • Work in a safe way, and comply with risk assessments, including making suggestions for improvements; and

  • Provide support to other team members and assist on appropriate projects as required.

    We are seeking self-motivated individuals to complement and enhance our Waste & Resource Management team., Experience and relevant qualifications are not essential as training to conduct the surveys will be provided and you will receive ongoing support and advice from our wider team as required.

  • However, you will need to be comfortable using a smartphone (Apple/Android) in particular using Microsoft Excel and Onedrive for uploading and downloading files. The role is lone working outside so the ability and initiative to overcome common technology and connectivity issues (such as using Hotspots on other devices) would be advantageous.

    Since the job involves working outside all year round and requires significant walking, it would particularly suit someone who likes to be outdoors and to stay fit and healthy by getting regular exercise while at work. As it is important to work to a set methodology, it may also suit someone who has previous experience as a market research interviewer or similar types of jobs.

    You will need to be dependable, trustworthy, self-motivated, enjoy working outdoors, and able to complete your assessments on schedule to a high standard. We need a 'safe pair of hands' to reliably deliver these important survey works for our clients.

    Survey works will be conducted throughout London and the South of England, at times involving staying overnight. You will therefore need to able to drive to various locations in south east England, hold a valid driving licence and, ideally, be a car owner. However, we would consider applications from non-drivers based in London, where public transport is a practicable alternative to a car.,
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain accurate records of information;

  • Ability to work a smartphone and use a spreadsheet to record information;

  • Basic numeracy, literacy and communication skills; and

  • Practical surveying / data collection experience (direct or transferable) may be an advantage.
