Full Job Description

Full-time 37.5 hours per week. Fixed term for 24 months

Applications are invited for a Medical Laboratory Assistant vacancy in the Blood Sciences Laboratories at Royal Bolton Hospital.

If you are an internal applicant, please note that as with all secondment opportunities, interested parties should discuss the opportunity with their line manager before applying.

The post involves assisting and supporting our friendly team in the processing of patient samples. This includes use of the laboratory computer system. The successful candidates will rotate through all sections of Specimen Reception and the Blood Sciences laboratories.

Previous experience is an advantage but not essential as full training will be given.

The laboratories are well equipped (Roche Cobas, Sysmex XN, Werfen TOP, Tosoh HPLC analysers, Diasorin Liaison and Ortho Vision analysers), fully computerised (Clinisys LabCentre system), fully UKAS accredited and HCPC approved for training. The Blood Sciences Laboratories processes around 900,000 patient samples per year. The laboratory also supports an active Clinical Haematology service.

The department operates an out of hours service (24 hour working - 7 days per week) in which you will be required to participate. Payment for 'out of hours' working is at Agenda for Change rates. Flexibility to cover for absent colleagues will be expected.
