Full Job Description

The Night Coordinator will have responsibility for the hospital at night for ensuring that staffing levels on all wards have the right skill mix and are in line with ladders, support and advise colleagues, to monitor the standards of care given and ensuring that colleagues adhere to company standards and policies. This individual will be required to take on the role of the Night Coordinator during the night shift, they will be expected to support other wards with their breaks and provide effective leadership. The site coordinator's movements and management of the service are to be completed from the bleep holder's ward., The role of a Night Co-Ordinator Mental Health Nurse (RMN) within the Mental Health Hospital involves:

  • Taking a handover from all wards including updates on any incidents, staffing levels and actions required to be carried forward.

  • Making any required changes to staffing ensuring each ward has adequate staffing.

  • Attempting to cover any shifts not covered by using the Matrix system.

  • Each ward should report all incidents, seclusions, sickness, DNA's to the Night Coordinator to be recorded on the Night report at the end of each shift.

  • Preparing a Night Report which should be shared with Ward Managers, Matron and Hospital Director

  • Visiting each ward throughout the night to ensure observations are being carried out and all colleagues are alert.

  • Completion of 24-hour reports and CQC notifications alongside other documentation as advised by on call management

  • Handover to the Ward Managers/CTLs in the morning.

  • Qualified Mental Health Nurse with 12 months plus post registration experience with active NMC registration

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and commitment to change, improvement and quality

  • Ability to develop and use flexible and innovative approaches to practise

  • Good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act

  • Ability to undertake physical requirements of PRICE training

  • Minimum 2 years experience post registration in mental health and ideally CAMHS with evidence of continued professional development in the relevant field.

  • Minimum 2 years experience of working as a CTL/deputy ward manager or similar senior nursing role ideal but not essential
