Full Job Description

This role key to helping Hiscox on our journey to ensure our operations are resilient and able to recover quickly when something unexpected happens, this role exists to ensure we remain able to look after our customers and that our colleagues feel supported. You will be responsible for the implementation of the Operational Resilience framework, embedding resilience by design. Your role will be key to help to implement a culture of continuous improvement, using scenario testing and near misses to learn from mistakes and inform corrective action.
Another key focus of this role is within the Service Delivery area, ensuring it is sufficiently controlled and has robust governance processes embedded. You will be responsible for implementing the oversight and management of the Service Delivery Risk and Control environment and the governance frameworks we must adhere to, embedding a culture of risk management, control and good governance practises into the Service Delivery area.
What you'll be doing:
Management of Operational Resilience requirements, facilitating key activities across the UK business, including:

  • Annual review and refresh of all governance/ BAU artifacts (including strategy, scenario testing library, intolerable harm definition, governance framework, success factory learning etc..

  • Periodic review of the list of important business services, impact tolerances and resource mapping, in liaison with Important Business Service Owners, Department heads, HSL, and in alignment with evolving market / regulatory guidance

  • Leadi on scenario testing activity, progressively maturing testing across HIC, ensuring lessons learnt are identified and appropriate remedial actions/vulnerabilities are followed through to completion

  • EnsureOperational Resilience is sufficiently embedded in third party contracts, supporting in the remediation of any weaknesses and gaps

  • Provide support, guidance and oversight to the Change, IT and Value Stream teams in completing Operational Resilience Impact Assessments to ensure resilience by design and continuously improving the process

  • Development of Operational Resilience reporting including KPIs and appropriate MI and control reports to alert management to any potential breaches to impact tolerances

  • Providing advice and guidance on Operational Resilience to HIC colleagues

  • Overall management of the Service Delivery Risk and Control environment, including oversight and management of the Service Delivery Core Control Database actions and CEOM actions, ensuring they are remediated in a timely manner,

  • Report on the effectiveness of the Service Delivery risk and control position into Service Delivery Risk Forum, and UK governance forums

  • Oversight and management of Service Delivery governance frameworks (including ORE framework, QC framework, comms policy, support policy governance frameworks)

  • Embed robust root cause analysis processes pertaining to risk control and governance activity e.g. ORE's, complaints, QA etc.

  • Embed a risk conscious culture across Service Delivery, providing guidance and support to the Service Delivery area on risk, control and governance frameworks and practises

  • Key stakeholder management and acting as liaison between Service Delivery and Conduct/ Compliance Teams.

    5+ years' experience working in a Risk and Control environment desirable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


  • Knowledge of general insurance products, services, classes of insurance including underlying legal principles and practices relating to conduct and risk

  • Ability to build professional relationships and work collaboratively across functions and hierarchy

  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritise workload

  • Ability to analyse data and root cause problem solve

  • Able to identify risks/issues and respond appropriately

  • Due diligence and attention to detail

  • Able to act on initiative and make decisions Credible subject matter expert with very strong facilitation skills
