Full Job Description

To assist in the provision of an effective back office parking service contributing to Medway's commitment to it's community and environment.

To deal with correspondence, challenges, representations and appeals against parking enforcement activity, requiring exercise of judgement and discretion, and issue permits to residents and businesses within Medway.

To assist with the smooth running of the parking processing team on a day to day basis, helping to create an environment and structure that provides excellent customer service.

Support the work of other processing staff during periods of absence or unusually high volumes of work to maintain the efficient provision of administrative services.

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE "C" grade in English and Maths or equivalent.


  • Experience

    Essential

  • Demonstrable ability to carry out a range of tasks and understand the procedures associated with them. Ability to use equipment provided and possess the written and numerical skills needed to compile straight forward reports, correspondence, calculations, carry out assessments.


  • Previous demonstrable experience of providing an administrative support service


  • Experience in dealing with written enquiries from the public providing clear and concise written responses.


  • Demonstrable experience of providing a customer focused telephone enquiry advice and information line for the public.


  • Demonstrable experience within a parking enforcement environment.


  • Demonstrable experience of working within a busy customer services environment.

    Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of interpreting legislation.

  • Excellent ICT skills with the ability to demonstrate the application of these within a work context.


  • Demonstrable ability to use own judgement and creativity to assess situations, solve straight forward problems and adapts to new ways of working.


  • Demonstrable ability to use written and oral communication skills to present varied information in an understandable way to a range of audiences.


  • Demonstrable ability to work within defined procedures and to work independently, using initiative to deal with straight forward situations, referring to supervisor/line manager for unusual or difficult problems.


  • Demonstrates the ability to deal with some work related pressure, for example from deadlines, interruptions or conflicting demands.


  • Can demonstrate dexterity, co-ordination or sensory skills where there is either some demand for precision and speed or considerable demand for precision in the use of these skills (e.g. data processing or speed typing)


  • Demonstrable ability to be polite and courteous when dealing with members of the public.


  • Demonstrable ability to explain straight forward tasks to others, where required.


  • Demonstrable ability to handle and process cash/documentation relating to considerable financial amounts accurately (up to £1000 per day)


  • Assertive and able to deal with appropriately and effectively with conflict.


  • Main contacts are dealing with enquiries from members of the public and clients. the post holder will also be expected to liaise with the police.

    The post holder will be required to deal with occasional exposure to disagreeable, unpleasant or hazardous environmental working conditions or people related behaviour.
