PLC Controls Engineer

Location: Rochdale, OL16 3LQ

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

They are looking for an experienced PLC / Controls Engineer who is keen to make an impact and would relish the opportunity to be part of an energetic, forward-thinking team.

The Role

Develop new and existing PLC software for Holroyd s range of machines by making suggestions for improvements and optimisation and collaborating with team members to drive forward modernisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and develop PLC and NC principally using Siemens and Fanuc for high precision, multi-axis CNC Rotor Milling and Rotor Grinding machines.

  • Lead software commissioning of new machines and in-house CNC refurbishments following standard procedures and timelines.

  • Collaborate within a dynamic engineering team to further the development and integration of new technologies to improve machine functionality and drive operational efficiency.

  • Provide remote and/or in-person customer technical support for Siemens and Fanuc control systems.

  • Maintain standard documentation for PLC/Controls tasks such as Commissioning checklists, Alarm Lists, Safety Acceptance, etc.

  • Lead Software Commissioning and make PLC modifications necessary for CNC conversions and upgrades of existing machines. This will include travelling to customer facilities in the UK and overseas.

  • Provide technical support to a multi-discipline team including electrical design, procurement, sales, project management, and customer service.


  • Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years experience working as a PLC Controls Engineer or similar role within Machine Tool or the Automation industry.

  • An understanding of CNC machinery and experience of writing PLC, HMI / SCADA applications.

  • Experience of Siemens control systems (Sinumerik preferred but not essential).

  • Working knowledge of Fanuc control system (preferred but not essential).

  • C/C++ knowledge (preferred but not essential).

  • Flexible and willing to travel internationally.

  • Good technical working knowledge of machine tools including electrical & process.

  • Strong customer service skills, written, telephone and in person.

  • Friendly and professional manner.

  • Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.
