Full Job Description

Senior Educational Psychologist: Shape the Future of Preventative/Early Intervention EPS Support for Children and Young People in North Somerset., As a full time, permanent, Senior Educational Psychologist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape for children and young people in North Somerset. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire a team of educational psychologists, driving innovative strategies that directly improve the educational experiences and well-being of our diverse student population.

You will provide inspirational leadership and strategic direction to the Educational Psychology Service, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will lead key projects focused on preventative work and early intervention to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people. This includes providing leadership and strategic direction for workstreams with partners in Early Years, Specialist Provision Support Team (SPST), Virtual School, and SENCo networks. You will further develop collaboration and interagency working between, schools, social care, health, and other relevant agencies.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

About you

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A good honours degree in Psychology or equivalent recognised by the BPS

  • A nationally recognised postgraduate qualification in educational psychology

  • Evidence of continued professional development in relevant areas

  • HCPC registration

  • A demonstrable track record of successful leadership and management within an Educational Psychology Service

  • A track record in providing comprehensive psychological services to children, young people, and families with diverse needs

  • Proven ability to develop and implement evidence-based interventions and strategies to improve educational outcomes and well-being

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, national guidance, and policy frameworks related to education, SEND, and safeguarding


  • Desirable:
  • Experience in conducting research and disseminating findings to inform practice and policy

  • Experience in using data and evidence to monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions and services

  • Knowledge of local and national educational systems and policies

  • Ability to use a variety of assessment tools and techniques to identify the needs of children and young people

  • Experience in working with children and young people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
