This project will focus on the delivery of an industrially funded research project. The main purpose of this position will be to develop a cost-effective Surface-enhanced Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy (SESRS) tool for the detection of different materials.

These will consist of experimental study of the tunable laser and narrow linewidth laser; develop lasers with modulated signals to be ready for Raman Spectroscopy; experimental study and collecting substantial amount of Raman data for various samples. The aim will be to prove the SESRS using the novel laser platform that will find applications as sensors as a requirement from our industrial collaborators. The work will be carried out in collaboration with an academic team in Chemistry here at USW and academic teams at the University of Bangor.

The role will require an individual with experience in laser physics and engineering in tunable laser and narrow linewidth laser diode. The postholder will have experience in the experimental study of laser testing via a broad range of techniques. They will be expected to demonstrate a proactive attitude and significant initiative towards further developing the project. This role will also require the preparation of detailed reports and a contribution to publications in optoelectronics science. The primary focus of the role will entail carrying out research activities in the laboratory. This role will also involve formal supervision and mentorship of other junior members of the research group.
