Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Trainee HSE Advisor to join our BB Kilpatrick team to work at Sellafield, Seascale.

Role Purpose:

  • To support the HSES team in delivery of construction.

  • To support BBK in achieving Zero Harm objectives and sustainability blueprint.


  • What you'll be doing

    As a Trainee HSE Advisor you will be:
  • HSES support within a designated project delivery team and conducting programmed inspections across the project

  • Ensuring SMART KPIs and deliverables are focused

  • Undertaking site visits to support the project team

  • Ensure observations are closed out and actioned

  • Ensure the Health and Standards of PPP are consistently met

  • Give competent advice across a multi-functional / discipline project

  • Carry out all duties with full regard to all the BBK policies, plans and procedures

  • Build relationships with other contractors and Principal Contractor

  • Monitor the working practices of BBK employees and contractors regarding health, safety, environment, and welfare

  • Carry out HSE inspections across the project

  • Undertake such additional tasks as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post

  • Share best practices and lessons learnt from their area of responsibility to allow for continuous improvement

  • Proactively engage with site Safety Representatives

  • Record the findings of reports and inspections in line with the HSSE Management system requirements

  • Intervene when unsafe practices are observed, offer solutions to observations made

    The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Preferably experience in Nuclear built environment

  • Strong planning, organising and monitoring abilities

  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills

  • HSE legal knowledge and practical application

  • Knowledge incident investigation

  • Professional, personable and results focused

  • Team player

  • Willingness to work across multiple teams

  • Ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture

  • NEBOSH certificate or equivalent


  • The following qualities/experience are desirable:
  • Additional relevant skills and qualifications in any technical area
