Full Job Description

Histopathology department is looking for a Trainee Biomedical Scientist holding an IBMS approved degree, willing to develop sufficient expertise to gain HCPC Registration in the prescribed time (18 months). A record of progress in training must be maintained as required by the Health Professions Council and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. The applicant will be supported through completion and assessment of IBMS training portfolio by a designated training lead and the histopathology team. The post will give the successful candidate an opportunity to experience all aspects of the specialty performing supervised, specialised procedures to diagnose and monitor disease. The role will involve taking direct responsibility for all the results produced and work performed including quality control and assurance., You will be expected to actively participate in training and to perform under supervision all clinical laboratory tasks to support the specialised diagnostic service for patients in the Histopathology department performing routine diagnostic testing procedures on histology and non gynae cytology samples. Duties may also include:
+ Accurate descriptive note taking whilst assisting the pathologist at specimen dissection.
+ Production of digital images of specimens.
+ Processing and embedding tissue blocks.
+ Production of high quality sections.
+ Specialised staining techniques.
+ Assessment of all stained slides for quality and accuracy.

The Histopathology laboratory forms part of the Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP; an innovative joint-venture Pathology service between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high quality Pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users. The successful potholder will be employed directly by Harrogate Hospital.
