On Your Side: Arvest Bank warns customers of text scam

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Arvest Bank is warning of a text scam targeting customers.

The text will look like it’s from Arvest, telling you your online access is being limited because of an unusual transaction. The text then asks the customer to click a link to remove the restriction.

Arvest says it will never start a conversation and ask customers for sensitive information. The bank warns you should only provide information when you contact your bank directly.

“We will never contact you asking you for unsolicited information and if someone were to contact you definitely don’t give that out, stop, reach out through our customer service number, and make sure that we can either route you if there is someone actually reaching out or confirm to you that you were being potentially scammed,” said Mikala Thurston with Arvest.

The FTC says imposter scams like these were the leading cause of money lost to fraud in 2023. These texts will include links that send customers to websites that ask for financial information, usernames, and passwords.

You should look out for those links, or texts that urge you to take immediate action. Also be wary of any unprompted requests to complete transactions, claims that your cards have been locked, or missed delivery notifications from delivery services.

If you believe you are the victim of a fraud, report the incident to your bank, and the FTC.
