FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Scattered storms today, then a dry weekend

Temperatures will climb through Monday
Updated: seconds ago

Good morning, and happy Friday! A weak warm front is draped across eastern Kansas into central Missouri this morning. A low-level jet has helped generate thunderstorms over western Missouri just south of the warm front, and these should weaken as they move slightly eastward through the morning. There could be an isolated strong storm and some localized heavy rain, but a majority of the area will be dry.

Scattered storms will be ongoing, though many places will still be dry.(KY3)

There should be significant cloud cover over at least the western half of the area this morning, but clouds will decrease this afternoon with highs once again climbing to around 90°.  Some weak upper energy moving southeast over the eastern Ozarks could trigger a storm or two this afternoon.

The threat will shift east with time today.(KY3)

With good instability, a strong storm or two is possible, with an eastward shift with time.

Scattered storms will be possible as an upper low drifts south.(KY3)
The threat for storms will dwindle by late afternoon.(KY3)

The storm chance tonight should be closer to I-70 in northern Missouri, though I can’t rule out some activity sagging into areas around lake of the Ozarks. Upper high pressure will expand across the region this weekend into early next week, bringing temperatures up gradually until we hit upper 90s Monday and Tuesday.

The hottest days should be Monday and Tuesday.(KY3)

Models have sped up the timing of the next cold front a bit, with a decent chance of thunderstorms as early as Tuesday night. I’ve lowered temperatures for the second half of next week, with another batch of refreshing air coming our way.
