Congratulations to Ann Daniels, a labor & delivery nurse at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, on her DAISY Award! Ann was nominated for the award by a couple she cared for on their brightest and darkest days. After helping an expecting mother deliver a stillborn baby last year, Ann provided exceptional care to the family, regularly checking in on them, providing hugs and words of encouragement. "She was more like a guardian angel than a nurse...beyond calm and comforting, so kind, patient, and understanding," said the couple. Fast forward to May 2024, the couple was expecting again and desperately hoped to have Ann as their nurse once again. Shortly after being admitted to their delivery room, in walked Ann and they immediately recognized each other from the year before. After a few tears and encouraging words, Ann helped deliver the family's healthy newborn son. The family nominated Ann because of her excellent care and her generous, caring spirit. "We want her to be recognized for just how amazing she is and the profound and life altering impact she's had on us."

Intensive Care Unit Charge Nurse, Sarah Grant, truly lives the AdventHealth mission of serving others. When Sarah is not working the weekend night shift, she spends her weekdays serving the community. Sarah volunteers and does yearly vision screenings for all the children at her daughters’ school and teaches the fifth-grade health class since they do not have a school nurse. In addition to volunteering at the school, she leads early childhood activities at her church. At work, Sarah is helpful with tasks, floats to other units when needed, and always has something kind to say. She even created a process to recycle batteries on her unit to help our environment. Many of her co-workers have seen Sarah pull up a chair and sit with patients and families to be a listening ear during their hardest moments. Sarah’s generosity has left a positive impact on her community and team members. She is quick with a hug and a smile to brighten the day of anyone lucky enough to know her. Thank you, Sarah, for your invaluable contributions at AdventHealth South Overland Park and congratulations on being the recipient of the 2023 Community Service Award.

Someone once said that tough times don’t last, but tough people do. In the case of Kyle Walker, they couldn’t have been more right. After struggling with what he thought was sports-induced asthma throughout high school, Kyle was diagnosed with a heart valve defect at age 20. “By age 36, I had completed four marathons, and had just run the Corporate Challenge Half-Marathon,” said Walker. But that’s when his health took a turn for the worse. Watch the video and read about Kyle's inspiring story: https://bit.ly/3yTnRLR
