Dan Amos has been at the helm of insurance giant Aflac for more than 34 years, making him one of the longest-serving CEOs in the Fortune 500. He has also presided over an incredible 1500%-plus return on the company's stock, which is celebrating its 50th year of being listed on the NYSE. An arguably risky advertising campaign that cost more than Aflac had ever spent catapulted the company's brand recognition from 11% to 94% over 14 years, making Aflac a household name and redefining the insurance and landscape. It all started with two advertising creatives on a park bench and a duck, later immortalized in a commercial which first aired January 1, 2000. Aflac recently had the honor of hosting the Celebration of Courage Event for young patients and their families at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with Beads of Courage, a program dedicated to marking significant milestones in these children’s treatment journeys through the creation of beautiful bead necklaces, clips and bracelets. Eighteen Aflac employee volunteers helped patients select and design their beads, each representing a step in their courageous journey. The positivity and strength of the patients and their families left a lasting impact on our volunteers. Aflac Associate Talent Recruiter Jalisa shared, "It reminded me to be more mindful of being positive. Don’t take life for granted. Cherish every moment." Aflac U.S. President Virgil Miller, Clemson University Head Football Coach Dabo Swinney, Kathleen Swinney, the Tiger and members of the Aflac Nation in Greenville, South Carolina, recently surprised 17 children with their very own My Special Aflac Duck® at Prisma Health Children's Hospital-Upstate ahead of the Aflac Kickoff Game. The innovative robotic companion was created to help children facing cancer or sickle cell disease express their feelings, prepare for medical procedures and cope with their diagnosis and treatment. Since the program’s inception, Aflac has provided more than 30,000 ducks free of charge to healthcare providers, support organizations and diagnosed children 3 years or older, and has given more than $182 million to research and treatment of childhood cancer and blood disorders.

Keith Farley, senior vice president, individual voluntary benefits at Aflac, spoke about human-centered AI and how the supplemental insurer keeps its innovation focused on customers. “With AI, our predictive modeling is straightforward,” he said. “If you've had this certain kind of accident or this certain kind of illness, based on the data we have, we can tell you with pretty good confidence, exactly what kind of treatments you're going to have, how many physical therapies you're going to need. Today, we are excited to spotlight Janice Mitchell-Smith.    Janice’s contributions have earned accolades such as the Volunteer of the Year Award and a Citation from her local senator for her selfless service to the Waterbury chamber and local businesses, both as a board member and through serving as an ambassador.   She also raises funds annually for the Greater Water Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry. Beyond her chamber and food bank roles, Janice cares for the elderly, providing essential support with cooking, cleaning and running errands for those in need.
