Join us LIVE on Instagram on July 18 to dive into the state of education in Florida. In this year’s KIDS COUNT Data Book, Florida ranked 30th overall in child well-being. It also ranked 5th in the education domain — the highest-ranking state outside of New England. Norín Dollard of Florida Policy Institute will join Karina Jiménez Lewis to discuss the context of these scores and what details the data may not show. Let's Change the Odds so all Atlantans can thrive! Together we can do this! In my July 6 AJC Opinion piece, I stress the urgent need and ripe opportunity for Atlantan's to work together to assure that all of our neighbors have access to opportunities to reach their full potential and share in the growing prosperity of our great city. Changing the Odds means tackling persistent systemic challenges instead of relying on individuals to struggle to beat the odds created by those systems on a daily basis. The latter is a losing proposition, and is not reasonable to expect or even fair to ask. Unfortunately, beating the odds each day is a stark reality for far too many of our Black and brown neighbors. The recent Annie E. Casey Foundation report on racial gaps and disparities in Atlanta - Changing the Odds: Comprehensive Solutions for Atlanta's Future - tracks neighborhood, education and economic data by race to identify challenges and highlight solutions. The report calls for investments in community-led solutions to community challenges, from expanding affordable housing and making new resources available for entrepreneurs of color, to making sure high school students have access to rigorous coursework, to assuring the availability of high-quality, affordable early learning so parents can work and advance their careers, to investing in equitable and inclusive development like we're seeing at Pittsburgh Yards on the southside of Atlanta. https://lnkd.in/eP-CVV7V The Changing the Odds Network, which was organized after the first Changing the Odds report in 2015, works collaborativley across public and private sectors on crosscutting solutions that you can read about in the report. Please reach out to me if you're interested in joining the Changing the Odds Network! Let’s Change the Odds for our young people, families and communities. Nothing could be more important to Atlanta now or in the future, and nothing would make a greater difference. https://lnkd.in/egGVf4Gn

Congratulations to Pittsburgh Yards® on their newest addition! This effort exemplifies the power of community-driven investment. The Annie E. Casey Foundation invests in family, community, and opportunity, recognizing that kids and young people need all three to thrive. #CommunityInvestment #YouthDevelopment
Pittsburgh Yards® continues to honor its commitment to community as it welcomed The Food Studio, Atlanta’s first Black-owned plant-based shared commercial kitchen for food entrepreneurs. What better day to break ground than on Juneteenth as we reflected on and celebrated freedom, reslience and self determination among other principles. I look forward to all the ways the kitchen will nourish the community. https://lnkd.in/eix7zK57

Gen Z workers are more likely to go to college, be employed and earn higher wages than Millennials. However, Gen Zers are also paying 31% more for housing and spending 46% more on health insurance than their counterparts were just 10 years ago — and their earnings don’t go as far, since inflation-adjusted income only increased by 26% during the same time period.
Millennials had it bad financially, but Gen Z may have it worse

Atlanta, one of the Annie E. Casey Foundation's hometowns, is a dynamic city of great potential, exciting growth and increasing diversity. But within those positive characteristics, inequities persist that prevent some Atlantans from sharing in the city's prosperity. The third installment of the Foundation's Changing the Odds series shares data to illuminate these barriers and stories of promising approaches to overcome them.
