The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership is a nonprofit organization through which 26 arts, science and cultural institutions in Balboa Park, San Diego, collaborate to achieve greater organizational efficiency, innovation and excellence. The Partnership’s member institutions vary in size and type and include museums, performing arts groups and theatres, cultural centers, gardens and the San Diego Zoo. The Partnership was formed in 2003 to provide a means for members to identify and achieve collective goals and to speak with one voice on issues of mutual benefit and importance. The Board of Directors is comprised of executive directors of member institutions. Park staff, trustees and volunteers participate in the development and implementation of Partnership programs — Sustainability Program, Learning Institute, Park Pass, Art of Science Learning, and more. Today, @SanDiegoZooWildlife Alliance signed a new conservation agreement with China Wildlife Conservation Association and filed a permit application through U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Collaboration is at the root of successful wildlife conservation, and for nearly 30 years this partnership has provided key insights into giant panda biology, ecology and wellbeing. Though wild giant panda populations are increasing, continued conservation efforts are required to ensure their continued recovery in the face of against challenges such as population isolation, climate change, and habitat fragmentation. Our considerable expertise in caring for giant pandas well positions us to not only care for the next generation but also to learn from the giant pandas in our care to better protect their wild counterparts and their ecosystems. We have an incredible opportunity to further our scientific understanding of this iconic species and its role across their forest and mountain ecosystems. There is still much work to be done to ensure that giant pandas remain on the path to recovery, and I look forward to our next steps in this collaborative process.

So exciting that the Balboa Park Cultural District is now a member of the Global Cultural Districts Network (GCDN). Further understanding so many Cultural Districts throughout the world will truly help the finalization and then rollout of the Balboa Park Cultural District Experience Plan! We look forward to discussions with the The City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department next month and then identifying pilot projects for the rollout.

So pleased to receive this amazing group of 50 college students from Tijuana at The Institute of Contemporary Art, San Diego!
What a joy to be with so many college students from Tijuana. I wore my pink “tour guide” jacket as we walked Balboa Park and shared information about women’s history and the Women's Museum of California. With the San Diego Museum Council, we had a fabulous tour of the The Institute of Contemporary Art, San Diego. So exciting to connect with colleagues and students across the border. Thank you Bob Lehman for your efforts to support the World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024.
