📢 ⛵ From the 4th to the 12th of May 2024, the research schooner from Fondation Tara Océan docked in Naples, Italy, for an important port call as part of the #TREC expedition (Traversing European Coastlines), which involved a series of activities at the Porte and the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn. For this stopover in the historical Italian city, many activities were proposed in a coordinated action between #BlueRemediomics project partners Fondation Tara Océan, EMBL and Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn and the EU-funded projects AtlantECO Project and BIOcean5D, including public outreach events, a political event and press conference, as well as a public scientific conference. Some insights: ✔ Importance of the Mission Ocean and European scientific cooperation for the preservation of the Ocean. ✔The need for Data sharing and synergies between EU-funded projects Read our latest article for more insights here: https://lnkd.in/ejuYY5mh

📢 Webinar Announcement! The BIOcean5D is participating in the upcoming stakeholder engagement webinar of the Mission Ocean Project #PREP4BLUE series: "From Stakeholder Engagement to Policy - Assessing Marine Biodiversity Value". The webinar will focus on how best to support decision-making processes (and policymakers) through innovative methods (including citizens' knowledge) for economic & legal valuations of marine biodiversity integrating the dynamical and functional complexity of marine life. 🌊 Some examples emerging from the BIOcean5D project co-funded by the #EuropeanUnion will be provided. 📅 17 July 2024 - 12.00 pm CEST, Online ✍ Register here: https://lnkd.in/dMQCCfiM

This World Microbiome Day 2024, I'd like to highlight the tremendous potential of microorganisms to produce high-value products and biomass. 🐟 At NORCE we use microorganisms to produce new innovative aquafeed ingredients, such as natural algal oils and microbial proteins, as well as enzymes and other chemicals for a greener industry 💧 We integrate and use industrial sidestreams to save resources, energy and water in line with circular economy principles, - for our people, planet and profit ☝🏻...and we are researching the bacterial communities of microbial cultures. This brings knowledge of bacterial friends and foe, and how they affect productivity and product quality 📚 Compared to 10 000 years of traditional agriculture, we still have lots to learn to develop a productive industrial microbiology and biotechnology, but the possibilities are endless 🤙🏻 This research is conducted in our newest Horizon Europe projects BlueRemediomics, OXIPRO.EU and INNOAQUA Project, in the national SFI Centre for Industrial Biotechnology, and in multiple research and innovation projects. 🏭 Our microalgae labs at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre include a whole range of cultivation systems, from mL to m3 at the National Algaepilot Mongstad (NAM), in collaboration with Universitetet i Bergen (UiB). All systems are highly controlled and are used for strain selection, process design and optimization, scale-up, and production of biomass. 🏭 NORCE is hosting the Norwegian National Bioprocessing & Fermentation Centre (NBioC): a unique national research infrastructure and network for fermentation processes and scaling up 🏭 We are establishing NORCE Technology Park Risavika with unique buildings and facilities designed for industrial biotechnology, circular bioeconomy, and carbon capture and utilization technologies using CO2 and other waste streams #WorldMicrobiomeDay #biotechnology #microbiology #microbiome #microalgae #yeast #bacteria #fungi #singlecellprotein #BioTech #BioManufacturing #enzymes #greenertech #greenerproducts Hans Kleivdal | Anne Ingeborg Myhr | Dorinde M.M. 🌊 #BlueRemediomics Co-Coordinator Chris Bowler from CNRS and Professor Marcel Jaspars from the University of Aberdeen recently joined a panel at the "L’Océan s’invite au Luxembourg" event organised by IMS Luxembourg - Inspiring More Sustainability & One Ocean Foundation. The panel on the topic “Towards a Sustainable Blue Economy” delved into the need for investments in sustainable projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs to promote a responsible blue economy and highlighting solutions such as #bluepharma, responsible blue tourism & #decarbonisation of maritime transport. 👉 Read more about the event and the panel discussion here: https://lnkd.in/ehq3kTS2

📢 ⛵ On April 5th 2024 our #BlueRemediomics partners from Fondation Tara Océan held a science-to-policy workshop on “Innovative tools for monitoring and protecting the land-sea interface” in Marseille, France. As part of this workshop, Samuel Chaffron from Nantes Université presented the Microbiome Health Index (MHI), which aims to integrate our knowledge of the #marine #microbiome to quantify the health of the oceans by developing indicators based on the data we have on genes and genotypes of the marine microbiome. Read more on the workshop outcomes here: https://lnkd.in/etUKM9Pq The event was organised in conjunction with the EMBL led Traversing European Coastlines (#TREC) expedition.
