In the symphony of human experience, the song "Rainbow Connection" resonates deeply, not for providing answers but for honoring our inherent drive to ask questions and seek connectedness with others. This timeless melody reminds us of the profound link between curiosity and belonging. By nurturing a sense of exploration and wonder, we foster brain health and a deeper understanding of the agency we gain through friendships and communities. During our 25th anniversary Gala, local musicians David McDonald and Scott Stegall strolled onstage with guitar and banjo to share the magical lyrics and melody of "Rainbow Connection" – a song chosen to recognize the empathy and resilience of BrainHealth's founder, Chief Director Sandra Bond Chapman PhD Here's to the next 25 years!

Your connection to the world around you matters to your brain health. Being consumed by modern life and technology is common, but so is a feeling of disconnection from the world. Connecting with nature has been shown to boost cognition as well as happiness. Color, lighting and noise can influence how the brain works. When you cannot be in nature, cultivating an environment that elicits positive sensations can help reduce stress and elevate brain function.

In 2024, Center for BrainHealth celebrates its 25th anniversary – and our continued commitment to understanding how we can proactively strengthen our brains throughout our lives. During our Gala celebration this April, chair Debbie Francis welcomed guests, exulting “what a milestone this is!” She thanked Linda and Joel Robuck, the Gala’s Platinum Sponsors, before introducing videos about the center that included UTD President Richard Benson PhD, BrainHealth spokesperson Admiral William McRaven, USN (ret.) and many others who have been profoundly affected by the center’s work. Dallas-area leaders and visionaries were present, including several recipients of our prestigious Legacy Award, like Todd Platt, Tom Leppert, Linda and Joel Roebuck, Lee Roy Jordan, Daryl Johnston, Dan Branch, Dianne Cash, Debbie Francis and Dee Wyly. This lovely article from Glenn Hunter with MySweetCharity captures the resilient spirit and vision of our 25th Anniversary Gala celebration! I would like to express my appreciation to the team over at Center for BrainHealth for putting a spotlight on the Perspectives Matter program that Daniel Krawczyk, Ph.D. and I did a couple months back. We were joined by the excellent host Jim Cathcart while exploring the psychology behind lying and deception, how these actions impact us, and what can be done about it in daily life. https://lnkd.in/gXP9wdFj

More research released by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) supports that a healthy lifestyle could preserve cognitive function.
A new NIA-funded study found that maintaining a healthy lifestyle could help preserve cognitive function in older adults, even for those with signs of dementia in their brain. Researchers analyzed data from 586 participants from the Rush Memory and Aging Project to explore the relationship between lifestyle scores and cognitive function. Learn more about the study and how leading a healthy lifestyle could help protect against dementia: https://lnkd.in/edzap-q4 #NIAFunded #NIHAging #MAP #Dementia #CognitiveFunction #RiskFactors

Thank you Jennifer Mitchell, M.Ed. and all the other middle school teachers who attended our SMART training workshop this week! As part of our Adolescent Reasoning Initiative, teachers attend this training every summer in order to go back to their perspective campuses to implement the principles and enable students to take advantage of this important brain development stage, and optimize learning for success in the classroom and beyond. Jacquelyn Gamino
The Strategic Memory Advanced Reasoning Training (SMART) Leadership Workshop at the Center for BrainHealth was phenomenal!! It was great to be in the room with so many great people!! 🧠📚

We are thinking about the brain the same way we thought about the heart 25 years ago. One of the most recognized voices in medicine, Dr. Sanjay shares why the knowledge that we can improve brain function throughout our lives is inspiring the next health revolution. Dr. Gupta rethinks how we view the topic of brain health in this special BrainHealth Presents, celebrating Center for BrainHealth's 25th anniversary. If you enjoy this video, watch Dr. Gupta's talk with AARP's Sarah Lenz Lock, JD (recorded live at the 2024 Brain³ Summit in Dallas, Texas). Watch the full talk here : https://lnkd.in/gvYbmdh7

Alzheimer’s and dementia are not elderly diseases. The fight against it starts in childhood. With jumping deep into the research of brain health, brain capital, and creative thinking, I am more convinced that this journey begins during pregnancy and continues throughout the lifespan. 👶🏼👦🏽👦🏽👧🏼👩🏻🦱👩🏽🦱👨🏼🦳👵🏼 In our household, we’ve incorporated brain health talk in our everyday language. We talk about eating brain healthy foods, taking rest breaks, engaging in ‘music making brain time’, staring off into natural landscapes, and putting ourselves in brain challenging activities where we have to think and make new connections with new people. We talk about “myelinating our neurons” when we are engaging in frustrating tasks. My 89 yr old grandmother passed from dementia and I know that I can start doing things NOW to delay it for myself but my 6 year old son can start as well. Don’t wait till symptoms arise in your 60’s or 70’s. Alzheimer’s and dementia are NOT elderly diseases. Its presence can start showing up in your brain as early as your 30’s, though symptoms may not be visible until your 60s. The fight against it starts in infancy. Build resilient creative brains from day 1!🧠 Visit the Center for BrainHealth for great videos and strategies that I use everyday! #BrainHealth #NeuroSomaticCreativity
