Driven by the recent increased demand for LDES technology caused by AI and IRA legislation, companies must quickly transition to large-scale, commercial production to meet the growing need. CEO Joe Mastrangelo spoke with Maeve Allsup at Latitude Media about how Eos plans to achieve scale, a hurdle that has largely evaded the LDES sector, and the opportunities and challenges that come with it. “As in any field, being among the first to reach the production or deployment scale comes with immense challenges: ‘This is the hardest thing I’ve done in my career,’ Mastrangelo said.” Our transition from lab development to large-scale production has been accelerated with the recent backing of Cerberus Capital Management, and the growing interest from commercial and industrial customers – particularly data center developers and hyperscalers – in using LDES as a baseload technology, only increases the need for solutions like the Eos Z3™ system. Joe also highlights the need for mid-stage investments, like the up to $315.5 million strategic investment from Cerberus, to help companies overcome the “start-up valley of death,” especially if the U.S. wants to support the jump to new, more sustainable technologies. Eos is accelerating the shift to clean energy with positively ingenious solutions that transform energy storage.
About us
Since our founding in 2008, Eos Energy Enterprises has been on a mission to accelerate the shift to clean energy with positively ingenious solutions that transform how the world stores power. Our breakthrough Znyth® aqueous zinc battery was designed to overcome the limitations of conventional lithium-ion technology. Safe, scalable, efficient, sustainable—and manufactured in the U.S.—it’s the core of our innovative systems that today provide utility, industrial, and commercial customers with a proven, reliable energy storage alternative. But that’s just the start of how we plan to make a positive impact. Forging our ambition, originality, and resourcefulness into something that’s ever more ingenious, that resets how great is defined and forever alters the way things work, is what we strive to do each day. It’s how we imagine, make, and hone clean energy storage solutions that defy convention to not only get the job done, but to do it better. Join us. With ingenuity, we can build a more positive future powered by abundant and affordable clean energy. Visit eose.com to learn more.

Happy 4th of July from the team at Eos Energy! Today, we celebrate the spirit of American innovation and independence. We’re proud that our battery energy storage systems are designed and manufactured right here in the USA and are comprised of over 90% domestic content sourced through a U.S. supply chain. One of the greatest opportunities we face is ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient grid to maintain our energy independence for generations to come. Eos supports this with our technology, but also through our skilled workforce in Pennsylvania who work every day to make clean energy and manufacturing a flourishing industry. Energy independence and grid stability is also critical to our national security. Eos sources a majority of its materials and components domestically, which benefits the regional ecosystem of American manufacturing business and communities. Ultimately, it’s the spirit of American innovation and resilience that drives us to continue innovating every day. Here's to American ingenuity and a greener tomorrow! #FourthOfJuly #MadeInUSA #EnergyInnovation #AmericanManufacturing #IndependenceDay

Today, we are excited to announce an expansion with Indian Energy LLC and the California Energy Commission, increasing our existing project size by 25 MWh to reach 60 MWh of long duration energy storage capacity on the Viejas Enterprise Microgrid. This marks our largest order funded by the CEC and should further strengthen grid resiliency on the tribal lands of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians in Alpine, California through a hybrid of Eos Z3™ and Gen 2.3 systems. We’re proud to help accelerate the shift to safe, long duration storage in California. “Eos’ non-flammable proprietary technology represents a pivotal step forward in our commitment to deploying a diverse set of energy storage technologies. The scalability, reliability, and flexibility of their systems make them ideal for meeting our energy storage needs.” - Allen Cadreau, VP of Engineering at Indian Energy Now that we’ve launched commercial production in Turtle Creek, we’re starting a new chapter of growth and innovation. This is just the beginning. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e32vyiNv

We've successfully launched commercial production on our first state-of-the-art manufacturing line in Turtle Creek! With this line, designed and developed in partnership with ACRO AUTOMATION SYSTEMS, INC., we'll begin to ramp up Z3 manufacturing over the next six months to achieve 1.25 GWh of annual capacity - with extension plans to reach 2 GWh. This operational milestone combined with our recently announced investment from Cerberus Capital Management are both clear indications that we have the resources and capabilities in place to scale production and meet the growing demands for safe, American-made long duration battery storage systems. In developing the Eos Z3™ battery, our goal was simple: design and manufacture an easy-to-operate and abuse-tolerant system that can be scaled commercially. To do so, we took inspiration from Exxon’s zinc halide flow battery from the 1980s, a process that our SVP of R&D, Francis Richey, will discuss today at the TechConnect World Innovation show. Francis joined Eos nearly 10 years ago as a senior battery scientist, and now leads a team of engineers as SVP of Research & Development. Leveraging his experience in electrochemical engineering, Francis has been integral in advancing and refining our Znyth battery technology as an alternative to lithium ion. Things really are bigger in Texas! According to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), Texas is expected to outpace California in total gigawatts of energy storage for the first time, primarily driven by wind and solar power generation in the state. Eos is one of many companies helping the state scale capacity, as Texas remains a key target market for our commercial growth. To match the demand and to keep up with shifts in ERCOT rules, batteries coming online in 2025 and 2026 need 4+ hour long duration capability. Texas has already started to invest in this technology, and it’s beginning to pay off as extreme weather continues to drive record energy demands. With one of our standalone BESS projects in Orchard, Texas, we are proud to be one of the companies helping Texas expand its long-duration battery storage capacity. Eos Z3™ Cubes have been shipped, installed, and will soon begin commissioning to provide 50 MWh of storage for our first Texas project.
