Congratulations to August's Caregiver of the Month, Sara! Sara came to us with a strong background in scheduling and planning. This is a sought-after trait in eldercare. As seniors start to lose control of their health, their bodies, and their minds, they seek to gain control of what they feel is left. This often includes their daily schedule of meal times, shower days and times, tasks around the house (to include exactly how they are to be done), and a number of other things. It is important that we realize that the conversations we have with clients around these things are not about them being difficult or bossy, but them maintaining that little bit of control. That control gives them purpose! The clients that Sara serves really flourish when that control is maintained. Maybe lunch is at 2 pm every day and showers are just too scary to attempt. That's ok! Sara has not only gracefully accommodated their schedule but has found common ground, has similar hobbies, and has done a wonderful job assisting and encouraging them. She has allowed them to feel purpose!
