All HCS students will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2024-2025 school year as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a non-pricing meal service option for qualifying schools and school districts. CEP allows breakfast and lunch to be offered to all enrolled students at no cost. Schools and school districts that qualify are reimbursed for meals using a formula based on the percentage of students that are categorically eligible for free meals based on their participation in other State assistance programs. Joe Burch Named New Executive Director of Capital Projects The Horry County Board of Education named Joe Burch the new Executive Director of Capital Projects. Mr. Burch is currently the coordinator of capital projects and planning and will begin his new position on July 1, 2024.

Lee James Named Interim Chief Officer of Academics, Effective July 1, 2024. The Horry County Board of Education named Lee James the interim Chief Officer of Academics. Mr. James is currently a principal specialist in student services and will begin his new position on July 1, 2024.

Rob Grimes Named Interim Executive Director of Transportation, Effective July 1, 2024. The Horry County Board of Education named Rob Grimes the interim Executive Director of Transportation. Mr. Grimes is currently a transportation coordinator and will begin his new position on July 1, 2024.

Ben Prince Named Interim Chief Officer of Support Services, Effective July 1, 2024. The Horry County Board of Education named Ben Prince the interim Chief Officer of Support Services. Mr. Prince is currently the executive director of transportation and will begin his new position on July 1, 2024.

In an effort to further enhance our safety measures, HCS will be requiring clear backpacks for all students (who choose to carry backpacks) for the 2024-2025 school year. Clear backpacks have become a common practice in schools across the country as they allow for easy identification of any items being brought onto campus. By implementing this protocol, we are taking proactive steps to create a safe and secure learning environment for our students. In observance of #MemorialDay, all Horry County Schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024.

The Horry County Board of Education appointed Dr. Eddie Ingram as the interim superintendent of Horry County Schools on May 15, 2024, and he will begin his employment on July 1, 2024. Dr. Ingram’s 42-year-long career in education has been spent mainly in North Carolina, including as superintendent of Franklin County Schools from 2009 to 2013. He served as superintendent of Darlington County School District beginning in 2013 and then Berkeley County School District starting in 2017 before retiring in 2021. In his retirement, Dr. Ingram has served as the interim superintendent of Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools in North Carolina and the interim executive director of Foxborough Regional Charter School in Massachusetts. He received his doctorate in education from East Carolina University in 2002. The Horry County Board of Education is currently in the process of receiving proposals from superintendent search firms. These firms will have the opportunity to present their proposals to the Board at an upcoming meeting.
