Summer, summer, summertime ☀ 🍔 🌭   Last week JD Finish Line hosted its employee-favorite Summer Fest event! Nearly 1000 employees, from the Indy Office, Call Center and Distribution Center teams, experienced a fun day of food served by members of senior leadership, games and catching up with coworkers.   Employees also had the opportunity to meet and learn from the company’s #DiversityAndInclusion Council as well as hear information about health benefits and offerings with a visit from the company’s provider.   The day also included a Cornhole Tournament, featuring 1st Place winners Connor DuBois (Junior Merchandising Planner) and Dani Deuschle (Merchandise Specialist) and Runners Up Cameron Claycomb (Sr. Financial Analyst) and Colleen Wirth (Sr. Financial Analyst).   The organization has hosted this event numerous times over the last several years, with employees looking forward to it annually. #WeAreJD #JDNorthAmerica #JDxFinishLine #JDxJDNA

Last month, we hosted our organization's Area Manager Meeting, uniting both JD Finish Line and Finish Line Macy's teams. This event was a valuable opportunity for our teams to connect with new colleagues, engage with key business partners and collaborate on future initiatives. Over three days, our Area Managers not only worked cross-functionally but also aligned on departmental goals, posed questions and provided feedback. These discussions are crucial as we continue to cultivate an inclusive and collaborative work environment. Juneteenth, honored annually on June 19, is a commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War and has been celebrated by African Americans since the late 1800s. In 2021, the date was officially made a federal holiday and provides an opportunity for all Americans to stand together in unity for the country’s second Independence Day. This year, JD Finish Line took the opportunity to hear from the voices of its employees on what Juneteenth means to them. Check out this video to learn more about them and today’s significance.

JD Finish Line has a shared passion for investing from within and fostering whole-person development by being “The Place to Grow” for employees. As an organization, we recognize the importance of providing tools to help employees develop themselves to reach their full potential. Three years ago, and in support of that recognition, JD Finish Line launched its revamped internship program, the Corporate Academy. The exclusively internal program invites employees from the Retail, Distribution Center and Customer Care teams to JD Finish Line’s corporate office two times a year to learn integral parts of the business, develop critical skills and provide development opportunities in their career paths. Since the start of the Corporate Academy three years ago, the organization has welcomed 67 interns, with over 52% of them taking permanent roles within the corporate team following their sessions. This summer, the company welcomed eleven interns - ten are from the retail stores nationwide & and one is from the distribution center in Indianapolis. I had the incredible honor today of speaking at the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. national conference luncheon. Part of me speaking was about the importance of being present, about shaking a hand, introducing yourself. Then as I sat down on the stage I sat next to this man. Emmanuel Scarbrough. He is 82 years old and was being recognized as the mentor of the year mentoring hundreds of young men and women in Madison. I took my own advice and spoke up. It was the most fulfilling conversation I have had in years. One of the things he said his father told him was “I wasn’t like my father and I don’t expect you to be like me, but we will all be kind and caring people and go from there” thank you Emmanuel, you are a treasure and I’m so glad I took the leap. #jdsports #finishline #wearejd #jdfinlfoundation

Last month, I had the pleasure of participating in a panel with JD Finish Line's National Nonprofit Partner, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. It was a great afternoon connecting with the students who visited our office in Indianapolis, and some of our incredible JD Finish Line employees, who talked about their career journeys and what it's like to be a part of the JD team. We're all looking forward to seeing what this group of young leaders accomplishes next!
